Roquan Smith better hire an agent quickly if he wants to be traded | Otherwise, it could be tampering
A story came out today that was pretty interesting. Roquan Smith has told the Chicago Bears he wants to be traded, but that is going to be hard because he is his own agent.
According to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, a person acting as a representative of Smith has been calling other teams in order to gauge potential trade interest.
The only problem is Smith represents himself. Several years ago, the NFL created a rule called the runner rule and made it illegal for anyone not certified by the NFLPA to negotiate a deal for an NFL player. So what does that mean?
It means the person is setting up a potential tampering trap for any team that either engages in conversations regarding Smith or fails to promptly notify the Bears of the impermissible contact.
This is a bad situation, so Roquan better either hire an agent, or return to play. He does not have much of a fight at this point.
