Today, Dawson Knox the Buffalo Bills starting tight end and family are mourning the death of their loved one. Luke Knox a college football player at FIU is dead at the age of 22.

Knox recently transferred from Ole Miss to FIU, and his new head coach Mike MacIntyre announced his death this morning.

“Words cannot express the heartfelt sorrow we feel because of the passing of our teammate and friend, Luke Knox,” MacIntyre said in a statement. “I had the honor of coaching Luke at Ole Miss and at FIU. While I admired his passion for football, his genuine love for his family and teammates is what I will always remember. He had a special way of making everyone around him feel comfortable and confident. Luke’s family is special to me and they will continually be in my heart and my prayers during this difficult time. On behalf of the entire FIU football family, I extend sincere condolences to Luke’s family and all who love him.”

FIU players were told of Knox’s death late Wednesday. Thursday’s practice was canceled, and grief counselors were brought in to meet with the team and others from the university community.

Knox was a junior linebacker for Florida International University with hopes of making it to the NFL like his brother. The Tennessee native played in 23 games for the Rebels during each of the past four seasons.

No cause of death has been announced at this time, but this is such a tragic situation.
