Jimmy Garoppolo Trade Market: What teams could have interest in the 49ers QB?

97 FCS football players on NFL rosters? Former Eastern Illinois quarterback Jimmy G, is just one of 97 players from the FCS Division to make it to the NFL and stick on the roster!
Jimmy Garoppolo is on the trade block, these five teams could have interest in the former Eastern Illinois gunslinger.

Yesterday, the San Francisco 49ers gave permission to Jimmy Garoppolo’s agents to seek a trade. It was previously reported that the 30-year-old should be fully cleared from his latest setback by mid-August.

Garoppolo’s biggest problem moving forward may be that the majority of teams around the league already have settled their quarterback situations.

I think Jimmy G will in fact be traded, but what team could pull the trigger for him? We heard this morning that the Browns will not be in the mix for the gunslinger, but there are teams that could secretly use his services.

Let’s take a look at a few teams I feel should at least make a call to see what it would take to pull him away from the Niners.

New York Giants – Yes, I am going to say the New York Giants. The Giants did not pick up the fifth year option on Daniel Jones, and they have new coaches. If he surpasses expectations in 2022, the Giants have a chance to franchise tag him, which would allow Jones to earn around $30 million. I do not see the Giants doing this. The New York Giants make the most sense if you ask me. The new Giants regime is not tied to Daniel Jones by any means, so if you can upgrade your quarterback position for a few draft picks, why not? I think the Giants have to have the best odds at this point.

Seattle Seahawks – The Seahawks have been tied to Jimmy Garoppolo for some time, and while I do not think the Niners would want to face Jimmy twice a year, they are still a valuable trade partner. Right now the Seahawks have Jacob Eason, Drew Lock and Geno Smith as their quarterbacks. Jimmy G is better than all three. That is the truth. The Seahawks could use him, but why would you trade him in your division, unless you feel that confident in his flaws so you can beat him?

Houston Texans – Texans could use a quarterback. Let’s face it, Davis Mills, Kevin Hogan and Kyle Allen do not have Super Bowl written over them. They also have some ties to Jimmy Garoppolo. The Texans GM Nick Caserio was in New England when Jimmy was a Patriot. The Texans make a lot of sense and have to be a top 3 team at this point to acquire his services. This actually is a good fit, and I could see the Texans pulling the trigger.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Tom Brady and Jimmy Garoppolo back together again? Is Jimmy G better than Blaine Gabbert? The answer is yes, and the only other quarterbacks the Buccaneers have is Ryan Griffin and Kyle Trask. I could see the Buccaneers making a move but it would have to make sense for them. Unless, Brady is only playing for one more year, I do not think the Buccaneers make a move. If Brady gives them the blessing to get Jimmy G, then it could happen. Do not count them out. Both Jimmy and Tom have the same agents!

Detroit Lions – The Lions made a trade to acquire Jared Goff, but if he goes down they could be in trouble. Their back-ups are David Blough and Tim Boyle. The Goff/Garoppolo competition could be a good one. I am not sure the Lions would be willing to do this, but there were rumors they could draft a quarterback and that didn’t happen. At the end of the day, they did not win the trade of swapping quarterbacks. Matthew Stafford won a Super Bowl, so at the end of the day you may need to find a way to get another quarterback.
