What sets you apart from other defensive backs?

I’m aggressive, I fit runs and I’m sideline to sideline getting to the ball no matter where it is at. I can fit any package and move around the safety positions.

How do you prepare for games?

I have to re-watch clips from the other team, our practices throughout that week, and look over any other notes I can to be mentally prepared for any task my team faces. I definitely have to listen to my music with headphones and get my quiet time in my own space locking in for that game.

If you could hang out with any football player past or present for a day who and why?

Ray Lewis. He’s nothing but motivation and inspirational with a work ethic like no other! I know there would be a lot to learn from him as I look to better myself from someone whose been in those shoes.

What made you decide you wanted to be a football player?

I have been playing the game since I was 5 years old. Being blessed with athletic ability I played three sports throughout my life. The start of high school I figured out what sport I truly wanted to focus on and go all out for. Football has always fit me best as who I am and as the game teaches us life lessons, it’s made me dedicated to it.

What is your favorite coverage and why?

Cover 2. As it lets me play deeper, I will be in good coverage for any wide receiver running a route.I’m also able to play from uphill and come downhill if needed.

What are your favorite moments from your football life?

This past year in 2021 winning the OVC championship and being able to play a part with that team will forever be a favorable moment in life. Also, just seeing achievements and strides in my game of becoming a better player and knowing I have not reached my max yet will be moments I favor as I continue to strive in life.

What should we know about Deven Sims the person?

I’m a quiet person but lead by actions. I have a good heart and care for the people around me. I’m a big family person with a true soul of good intentions, always looking to better myself and the people by me each day I’m given.

What are you looking forward to in your upcoming season?

This upcoming season I’m looking forward to all the games as this will be our toughest schedule. Will have plenty of opportunities to show our skill against good opponents!

How do you handle challenges both in life and on the football field?

I handle challenges both in life and on the football field with past experiences and knowledge. Then I will try to think about the situation and solve that challenge. I have a strong mindset that is driven to overcome any challenge I may face. I’ll keep moving forward no matter what keeping God in my faith.

What would a team get in a player like you?

A team will get a hard worker from practice to the game to off the field. They will get a dedicated player who will always strive to better himself and the team in any way I can! They will get a man who will give his all and lay his life on the line for the team and organization!

Who is the most underrated player you’ve played with and why?

Jay Woods, cornerback. He reminds me a lot of myself and I clicked with him as soon as we met. He’s a hard worker, makes anyone better from both sides of the ball, and always moves like he has something to prove. He gave me confidence being on the field on his side as he also was one of the best teammates to anybody on the team on and off the field.

What type of energy do you bring onto the football field?

I bring a dog mentality. Old school football vibes and between those white lines my teammates know it’s time to go to war as I bring intense energy to the game we love.
