What made you decide you wanted to be a football player?

As a kid I had a high energy level and when I got the opportunity to play football as a kid in 5th grade it was a release for me. I fell in love with the physicality of the game and have loved it since.

If you could hang out with any football player past or present for a day who and why?

Luke Kuechly. I have always been fascinated with his style of play and the way he can diagnose plays. It would be cool to learn from one of the best to play the position.

What sets you apart from other linebackers?

What sets me apart from other linebackers is my explosive sideline to sideline speed that allows me to be in position to make plays anywhere on the field.

What type of energy do you bring onto the football field?

I bring a extremely high level of energy to field but I also try to keep it in check and not be out of control. I like to use the term controlled chaos.

Who is the most underrated player you’ve played with and why?

Curtis Culliard WR. His size and route running make him a problem for DBs. He has the ability to make big plays at any time.

What do you think are the keys to success on the football field?

Keys to success on the football field start with preparation and staying healthy. I don’t think there is such thing as being over prepared. Watching film and knowing my opponents strengths and weaknesses gives me that mental edge. Taking care of my body through recovery keeps my body in the best shape for game days.

What should we know about Coleton Smith the person?

I’d like to think I have a great work ethic and a passion for anything that I pursue. I am a family oriented person whether it be on the field or at home.

What are your favorite moments from your football life?

My favorite moments from my football life is just having the opportunity to put the pads on with my brothers on Saturday’s. Being in that locker room before and after games is unmatched.

How do you handle challenges both in life and on the football field?

I attack challenges head on. I pray about it and do the best I can to overcome them.

What would a team get in a player like you?

They would get someone who would be 100% dedicated to the betterment of the team. Someone who leads not only with a voice but by example.

What is your favorite defensive scheme and why?

I like 4-3 because with 4 down lineman it gives us more of a pass rush which can cause the QB to make bad decisions. This allows us as a defense to capitalize and make a play on the ball.

What are your looking forward to in your upcoming season?

I have high expectations for this season. With the amount of work that we’ve put in and the talent on this team I am looking forward to a championship.
