NFL Draft Diamonds Free Agent Interview: Antonio Chapman, Defensive Back

Antonio Chapman the former standout Defensive Back recently sat down with Justin Berendzen of Draft Diamonds.

Hello I am @jrberendzen on Twitter and this is one of my free agent interviews where I ask very deserving free agents questions about the players themselves and about what a team would get in these players. All of these players should get picked up by NFL, CFL, USFL, and XFL teams and get a shot at being a career football player. So I hope you all read this interview with Antonio Chapman and follow his journey on Twitter.

What made you decide you wanted to be a football player?

Seeing my older brother play high level division 1 football inspired me to pursue my own dreams. It’s signaled to me that anything is possible with hard work and dedication.

What sets you apart from others in your position?

I pick up things rather quickly when it comes to coaching. I pride myself on not making the same mistake twice. Also the fact I’m versatile and can play both sides of the ball. Mindset, speed and athleticism can also be added to what sets me apart.

What are your favorite moments from your football life?

My first time suiting of for a college game my freshman year versus Morehouse College for homecoming and winning a championship in junior college.

What type of energy do you bring onto the football field?

Passionate, energetic, and fearless. I want all my teammates to know they are fully prepared for the moment and trust one another to execute.

If there was a billboard with 5 of your traits on it which 5 traits would be up there?

Ambitious, adaptation, perseverance, energizer, and leader.

What do you think are the keys to success on the football field?

Preparation is the biggest key. What you do before game day is most important. Rather it’s strength and conditioning, diet, or simply knowing your opponent. After that it’s all execution, ability to be coached and adapting to change on the fly.

What are you looking to achieve as a football player going forward?

Win championships at the highest level possible

What should we know about Antonio Chapman the person?

I’m an outspoken leader. I’m nothing without God. God shows grace so Antonio shows grace to the world. I believe in others and want to see everyone win in life.

How do you handle challenges both in life and on the football field?

Keep going, the best way to get through a problem is persistence. It’s the same on a football field.

What would a team get in a player like you?

A versatile athlete who can play multiple positions on a football field. Hungry to learn and win within any system. I’m ready to contribute anyway I can.

What is your favorite scheme and why?

3-4 defense due to the blitzing angles for hybrid safeties/backers which makes my job easier as a corner since the QB normal has less time (in a blitz situation). Also running simple 2 soft or cover 3 out of this formation.
