If I am Baker Mayfield I am pissed this morning. Waking up to find out that my team’s front office is flying to Houston to meet with Deshaun Watson?
I mean let’s face it, the Browns quarterback busted his ass last year. When he was injured he fought through a labrum injury the entire year. Baker has is not the best player in the world, but he deserves better. The Browns were reportedly kicking the tires on the option, but if they do end up trading for Watson, Baker is likely the piece that will be sent to the Texans.
If the Browns however do not pull off the trade with Houston, their relationship with Baker could get sour quickly.
The Browns are supposed to meet with Deshaun Watson today who will also have dispositions today with the court for his civil cases. He could be facing a possible suspension.
The surge of teams making a push for Watson comes days after a grand jury decided not to indict him on sexual assault allegations. The Browns already added a star player in Amari Cooper for practically nothing, and they have some of the best running backs in the country. If they do in fact land a new signal caller in Watson, Baker will be the odd man out.
Cleveland.com reported that the meeting between the Browns and Watson indicates that Cleveland has shown it will be willing to give up several draft picks and even Mayfield, though the Browns’ current starting QB might not be part of the deal.
The Texans want at least five assets, so what else could the Browns give up? Would they be willing to give up the 13th overall pick, Baker Mayfield and other draft capital?
Will that make the Browns that much better? What if Watson is suspended for half the season, is it worth it? I guess we will find out soon.
