What sets you apart from other linebackers?

What sets me apart from others, would be first I’m a real student of the game, some people don’t really be students of the game and that goes from knowing the opponent, knowing yourself and what weaknesses on our defense is the offense trying to attack. Knowing situations within the game. Etc…

I’ve also played wide receiver in my past days, l think because of that, l naturally have instincts to find routes or being able to feel running backs and if they are going to cut back or keep pressing front side. It’s just certain l can feel just because I’ve played WR and RB.

What type of energy do you bring onto the football field?

I bring that type of energy that will make you go out there and play your hardest! My love and passion for this game is hard to explain so l let my play, and l let my actions show how much l really love the game. You really gotta love ball to go out there every saturday and play your heart out! When you really love it it’s easy to do.

What should we know about Jaylan Alexander the person?

Jaylan Alexander the person is really the same as Jaylan Alexander the football player. I bleed football, this is my life. But l would say I’m definitely someone you should have around because of the energy and vibe I give off. I’m a very cool, chill, funny guy, who loves football and wants to see the people around him succeed.

What are your favorite moments from your football life?

My favorite moments would be the bowl game we just played! It was a beautiful thing to see how this whole year we battled and fought through adversity and made it through as champions! It was also beautiful because I was a freshman when we got blown out in the same bowl game and for us to come back and rewrite our story it was great!

How are you planning to prepare for the draft?

I’m going down to Baton Rouge, I’ll be training with Ryan Clark down there. I’m really trying to focus on my speed and lateral movements through the process. I’m very athletic so l think Ryan will possibly bring more athleticism out of me that l didn’t know l had. I’m really just about to go to work and prove why l think I’m the best.

What made you decide you wanted to be a football player?

Might sound a little corny but football chose me. Ever since l could remember l had a football in my hand from birth. I started tackle football at 5 years old and never looked back. Really just having fun with the game of football, it was middle of college career when l learned and realized that football was my purpose in life and l was to use my platform of being a football player to inspire others and push others and show them anything is possible.

If you could hang out with any football player past or present for a day who and why?

Ray Lewis. I want to know what he knows, l feel like just being in his presence l will learn so much. There’s so much l still have to learn and have to experience. Sitting down and just hanging out or talking would help me so much for my future endeavors.

What are you looking to achieve as a football player going forward?

I’m looking to get into the league, make a team. Play for a team that truly believes in me. Then from there l want to help bring as many championships l can to that organization. I want to bring that energy and spark back to the defense side of the ball. As I’m doing all of that l also want to build my resume, l want prove myself and gain my respect around the league because at the end when it’s all said and done l want to have my own head stone and my own yellow jacket and for me and everyone to say l was one of the best to play the game.

What do you love about the game of football?

Everything, you literally work for months and months with a group of men trying to achieve something great! It builds relationships that last a life time. It teaches you lessons on being a man and being a good person in life. It teaches you success but also failure. Football is more than just a game, we work so hard to be called champions and whether you win the championship or not. Everyone moves on and gets back to work to try and feel what success is.

What would a team get in a player like you?

They will get someone who loves football, they will get someone who wants to win as bad as he wants to breathe. They will get a great leader in the making. They will get someone they can trust and look to help build a winning and brotherly culture in the organization.

What do you think are the keys to success on the football field?

Knowing your opponent, knowing the situations of the game. Understand what’s going on at all times. Understand your defense like the back of your hand. And most importantly effort. It all comes down too that, you can have a bad play call or you can just lineup without a play call it doesn’t matter if you play with effort you give yourself a chance at least.

How do you handle challenges both in life and on the football field?

Life is full of adversity on and off the field. You just have to be willing to understand that challenges will come. Either you fold or you prevail against those challenges. I understand and l choose to never fold. It’s hard to get through adversity and obstacles but when you find a way through them. You never know what is waiting for you at the end so why not push through.
