What made you decide you wanted to be a football player?
Football was the only game as a kid where I could be violent and not get in trouble for it. I loved that factor and I came from a football family.
What sets you apart from other linebackers?
My speed, knowledge of the position, and natural instinct. I don’t have all the freakish measurables but my finesse playing style is what makes me different.
What type of energy do you bring onto the football field?
I bring a positive energy, I’m always talking regardless of the score. Football is such a fun game.
How are you training for the draft?
Right now, my plans are to train in Charlotte, I may go out to Florida for a week or two and train before pro day but I’ll be based mainly in Charlotte.
If you could hang out with any football player past or present for a day, who and why?
Devin White. We have a similar body type and I try to play the game how he plays it which is fast and physical.
What are your favorite moments from your football life?
Winning high school State Championship in 2016 and the following year winning the Sun Belt in my true freshman year 2017. Rice game 2021 making 3 straight stops to give our offense the ball to send us to overtime to win the homecoming game. Those are top 3.
What are you looking to achieve as a football player going forward?
I’m looking to become an NFL football player. I have what it takes, I just need someone to take a chance and be in the right position. If that happens I can handle the rest.
What should we know about Justin Whisenhunt the person?
I am a people person. I am sometimes annoying socially but I love making others laugh and learning about other people. We are all unique in our own way.
What do you love about the game of football?
I love that football brings people of different race, religion, and beliefs together and we build a bond, come together to achieve the same goal. Despite all the bad things that occur in the world we put everything aside and go to war for each other. It teaches you so much and changed my life.
What would a team get in a player like you?
Someone who is all in & going to do whatever I have to for the success of the team.
How do you handle challenges both in life and on the football field?
What we call “See it Through”. It’s a poem by Edgar Albert Guest. No matter what gets through it through all hardship and circumstance, because running from it will not save you.
What do you think are the keys to success on the football field?
Key to success is trusting your process. Understanding that the little things matter. Consistency is key also.
