What are your favorite moments from your football life?

In high school I caught a pick six for about 50 yards during our homecoming game. In college my favorite would be my last sack in my final game of my collegiate career where I also totaled 9 tackles.

What sets you apart from other defensive linemen?

Physically I would say what separates me is that I’m an unmovable run stopper with violent hands and feet. Other than my physical abilities, I bring natural leadership to a team both on and off the field and will make any professional culture a better one.

What do you think are the keys to success on the football field?

I think there are a few keys to success on the field. It all starts in the offseason perfecting your technique, mentality, and condition. During this time you start to build culture and chemistry with teammates. This is the next key to success because you have to be able to trust your brothers. Then you have to know your role and play it at the highest level possible.

If you could hang out with any football player past or present for a day who and why?

I would love to hangout with Grady Jarrett of the Atlanta Falcons. I admire his game so much and have tried to model mine after him. He is explosive with very violent hands at a shorter height for a DT.

What made you decide you wanted to be a football player?

I’ve grown up being a huge fan of the Steelers and watching them be such a dominant organization which got me interested at a young age. But as I got older, and life happened, football became an outlet for me to release a lot of anger and aggression. There’s no other sport like football or as short lived which made me want to do it as a profession.

What should we know about Jaylen Johnson the person?

I’m an outspoken, funny, hardworking, and committed leader. I enjoy making music as well and have business aspirations.

How are you planning to prepare for the draft?

I’ve been training everyday getting my muscle endurance, speed, and condition ready. I’ve also been mentally preparing by watching film everyday and seeing what aspects of my game I can work on.

What are you looking to achieve as a football player going forward?

Nothing but greatness. I first aspire to make a professional team and then look to become a leader on the team, leading us to successful seasons.

How do you handle challenges both in life and on the football field?

I attack them head on. I figure out what I can do and how I will attack the challenge, then do so.

What would a team get in a player like you?

Consistency, violence, and tenacity. These are three qualities I pride myself on having on the field. Teams will also get a dedicated leader who works hard and constantly elevates himself and others around him.

What type of energy do you bring onto the football field?

I bring an energy similar to Ndamukong Suh. I possess the same violence and nastiness of Suh, and absolutely love to talk mess and get into my opponents’ heads. I also will point out my teammates if they’re slacking and not afraid of criticism towards myself.

What do you love about the game of football?

I love the opportunities football can and has brought to my life. From this interview, a shot at the pros, the family I’ve met along the way, and simply the ability to legally do what we do is incredible.
