1.What is your typical training routine?

In the off season I lift as heavy as possible and as often as I can and try to be the strongest and fastest I can be come fall. I start throwing in sprints once it gets closer to August and during the season I try to maintain my strength the best I can but more focused on getting my body recovered and ready for Saturday.

2.If you could hang out with any football player past or present for a day who and why?

Ray Lewis because his intensity and passion is unmatched. I love watching passionate players play the game.

3.What made you decide you wanted to be a football player?

Growing up all I knew was sports. I was a huge football fan and my dad played football and I was just meant to play football.

4.What are your favorite things about playing football for Southwestern College?

The culture is great. I’ve been apart of a lot of teams and especially teams that didn’t win very often. What coach griff has been able to bring here is so special. Everyone is bought in and we have a blast.

5.What sets you apart from other tight ends?

My size, my athleticism, and my blocking. A lot of tight ends either block really well or do really well in the pass game and I do both at a high level. Blocking isn’t as good as catching touchdowns but putting another grown man in the dirt is a pretty good feeling too.

6.What type of energy do you bring onto the football field?

I’m really focused on the field. I don’t do a lot of talking or extra stuff I just line up, play football, and celebrate my butt off with my teammates.

7.What should we know about Layke Hoffman the person?

Family is the most important thing to me. I’m a family man. I have girlfriend, a son, another son almost here, and 2 dogs. They’re everything to me.

8.How do you handle challenges both in life and on the football field?

Don’t flinch when you face adversity. Things go wrong and will always go wrong. Just grab your teammates or people close to you and face challenges head on.

9.What do you love about the game of football?

Football teaches you anything and everything you need to prepare for life. I’ve learned so many lessons from this game. Football also gives you some of the best friendships you’ll ever know.

10.What would a team get in a player like you?

A guy who’s going to outwork everyone, bring a positive attitude to everything, and very coachable.

11.What do you think are the keys to success on the football field?

Working as hard as you possibly can, buy in, and water the grass where you are.

12.What are your favorite moments from your football life?

Going 11-0 when I was in 6th grade and winning a conference title this past season. Competing and winning is the best feeling in the world.
