Division 3 Football Playoff Match-Ups Preview | Second Round Preview

Andrew Kamienski
Andrew Kamienski is an amazing WR at North Central College that broke several records on his way to winning a National Championship last season.

Justin Berendzen (@jrberendzen on Twitter) with my second round division 3 matchups preview matchups are ranked by how competitive and intriguing each matchup is but it is the playoffs so anything can happen and even the 8th matchup either team could win.

1.Wheaton(IL) College at Central(IA) College

Both of these teams are good are both of them had a lot of offense in the first round. Central’s offense has 5th year wide receiver Tanner Schminke who has 1,270 receiving yards and 17 touchdowns. Defensively for the Thunder they have senior defensive back Caleb Egbert has 36 tackles, 6 PBUs and 4 interceptions. Offensively for Wheaton they have junior running back Giovanni Weeks who has 1,365 rushing yards and 20 touchdowns. Defensively for Central they have sophomore linebacker Josh Van Gysel who has 67 tackles, 4 interceptions and 2 PBUs.

2.Birmingham Southern College at University of Mary Hardin-Baylor

Very interesting matchup here. Junior running back Aphonso Thomas who has 870 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns. For the defense of Birmingham Southern they have senior linebacker Court Coley who has 76 tackles, 9 TFLs, and 5.5 sacks. Robert Shufford senior running back has 1,296 rushing yards and 19 touchdowns for Birmingham Southern. Defensively for the Crusaders, they have senior linebacker Jacob Mueller who has 74 tackles, 13.5 TFLs and 3 PBUs.

3.Muhlenberg College at Delaware Valley University

This game might be Delaware Valley’s toughest test in 2021 Muhlenberg could challenge in ways we haven’t seen yet. Delaware Valley is led offensively by senior running back Donte Simmons who has 1,008 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns. Defensively for Muhlenberg, they have senior defensive back John Washington who has 40 tackles, 5 PBUs, and 3 interceptions. The Mules offense has senior wide receiver Michael Feaster who has 1,068 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns. Defensively for Delaware Valley, they have senior linebacker Anthony Tedesco who has 72 tackles, 8.5 TFLs, and 3 forced fumbles.

4.Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute at SUNY Cortland

If you want offense don’t watch this game but should have a good level of competitiveness. Cortland’s defense has senior defensive back Christian Legagneur who has 64 tackles, 4 PBUs, and 2 interceptions. Offensively for RPI, they have grad wide receiver Vinnie McDonald who has 567 receiving yards and 9 touchdowns. RPI’S defense has senior linebacker Joe Deptula who has 62 tackles and 8 TFLs. For the Red Dragons offense, they have junior receiver JJ Laap who has 797 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns.

5.University of Wisconsin-La Crosse at North Central College

We have another interesting bird name matchup between the Eagles and Cardinals which has nothing to do with birds and more so the players on the teams which I think La Crosse gives North Central a game. For North Central, they have senior wide receiver Andrew Kamienski who has 1,015 and 10 touchdowns. Defensively for the Eagles, they have senior defensive back Elijah Alt who has 74 tackles and 7 interceptions. Offensively for La Crosse, they have junior running back Joey Stutzman who has 1,309 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns. Junior defensive back Sam Taviani has 45 tackles, 6 TFLs, and 6 PBUs for the Cardinals.

6.John Hopkins University at University of Mount Union

I still think this could be very competitive too honestly all 6 of these first matchups could be entertaining. The Purple Raiders offense has senior running back Josh Petruccelli who has 667 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns. And defensively for Hopkins, they have grad defensive back Finn Zechman who has 50 tackles, 8 PBUs, and 4 interceptions. Offensively for the Blue Jays, they have junior quarterback Ryan Stevens who has 3,482 passing yards and 30 touchdowns. Defensively for Mount Union, they have senior defensive back Kordell Ford who has 23 tackles and 5 PBUs.

7.Linfield University at St.John’s University

Linfield is going to Minnesota this could be interesting but can Linfield take there game to Saint John’s field. Offensively for the Johnnies they have senior running back Henry Trost who has 736 rushing yards and 17 touchdowns. Linfield’s defense has defensive back Ben Baxter who has 39 tackles, 5 PBUs and 3 interceptions. Offensively for the Wildcats, they have freshman wide receiver Joel Valadez who has 614 receiving yards and 9 touchdowns. Defensively for Saint John’s they have senior defensive lineman Seth Morem who has 48 tackles, 15 TFLs and 8.5 sacks.

8.DePauw University at University of Wisconsin-Whitewater

Now I still think that this game could go either way but the matchup definitely favors the Warhawks. Whitewater’s offense has senior wide receiver Ryan Wisniewski who has 843 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns. Defensively for the Tigers, they have senior defensive back Evens Cribs who has 44 tackles, 11 PBUs and 2 interceptions. DePauw offense has freshman wide receiver Jaylon Smith who has 882 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns. Defensively for the Warhawks they have sophomore defensive back Egon Hein who has 50 tackles and 8 PBUs.
