Report: The Patriots offered a second round pick for Jimmy Garoppolo leading up to the draft, but 49ers turned it down
Leading up to the 2021 NFL Draft, everyone was shocked when the Niners made a trade to move into the top of the draft, and everyone was even more shocked when there were rumors about them selecting a quarterback.
It was down to Mac Jones, Trey Lance and Justin Fields, but the Niners would ultimately pick Lance. Well, according to Seth Wickersham’s new book “It’s Better to be Feared” the Patriots called the 49ers asking about Jimmy G and offered a second, but the Niners wanted a first round pick.
Matt Miller posted it on his Twitter account after reading the book.
In @SethWickersham’s book, he reports that the Patriots called the 49ers asking about Jimmy Garoppolo’s trade value on Day 1 of the draft. New England reportedly offered a 2nd; San Francisco wanted a 1st

I mean the Patriots seemed to have hit gold with Mac Jones, so maybe they were blessed by the Niners decision to walk away from the second round pick they were offered. Either way, it just confirms what we already knew. Jimmy G has a special place in Bill Belichick’s heart.
