Virginia Tech football player indicted for murder after killing a man pretending to be a female on dating app
Former Virginia Tech football player Isememen David Etute has been indicted for murdering a man who was acting as a female on the dating app Tinder.
Today, Isimemen David Etute was indicted by a grand jury on one count of Second-Degree murder. He will be tried in circuit court on November 18, 2021.
Etute is accused of killing Jerry Smith on Memorial Day 2021 after Smith had allegedly posed as a woman named ‘Angie’ on Tinder and matched with Etute on April 10.
Police were dispatched to do a welfare check in the 100 block of North Main Street in downtown Blacksburg and discovered a man dead, according to a police department news release.
Police identified the victim as Jerry Smith, 40, of Blacksburg. He and Etute knew each other, investigators said.
The crazy thing is there are three men on the surveillance video running from the man’s apartment, yet Etute is the only one being charged.
Etute is the only football player who has been suspended from the team.
