Hello, I am @jrberendzen on Twitter and this is one of my free agent interviews where I ask very deserving free agents questions about the players themselves and about what a team would get in these players. All of these players should get picked up by NFL, CFL, and XFL teams and get a shot at being career football players. So I hope you all read this interview about Shaquille and follow his journey on social media!

1.What made you decide you wanted to be a football player?

I was watching my first NFL game at 7 years old. It just so happen to be Ray Lewis on my mom’s tv making a big hit, And showing off, just the excitement of making a play like that helped me make that decision.

2.If you could hang out with any football player past or present for a day who and why?

Ray Lewis. I’ve always admired him off and on the field. From a young age I always tried to follow his footsteps as a father figure and role model to the next generation. Also just wanted to pick his brain questioning his IQ when it comes to football.

3.What is your typical training routine?

Mostly a 5 day training week with speed and strength training takeover. Upper lifts are usually 3 days a week. On field drills to keep my feet and awareness usually are a part of my weekends.

4.What type of energy do you bring onto the football field?

I definitely bring a high impact to the defense. I’m the type of player the offense has to game plan against because I can play inside and outside of the box. Put me out in coverage or stuff me in the box to blitz or spy on 4th down, I’m built for it.

5.What sets you apart from other linebackers?

I like to think I’m faster then a lot of linebackers. Try to image myself as an all around linebacker. My gap responsibility against run plays is one of my strong suits. But I can cover a lot of ground in open field or 1 on 1 against passing routes.

6.What should we know about Shaquille Lawson the person?

That I am a family man first and fore most. I have 2 daughters that mean the world to me. I strive for success so that they have a good life ahead of them.

7.What do you love about the game of football?

I love whole the game day feeling, the crowd and team getting hype, to the music blasting and your eyeing down the other team right before you go to war. But most of all I love that I have the freedom to express myself and show my true colors.

8.What is a moment that improved you as a football player?

Getting to travel to Dallas and participating in the Black Diamond Agency football camp. Allowed me to open up my game training against former NCAA players and CFL/NFL free agents.

9.What are you still learning as a football player?

To be more critical while watching film, developing my game awareness on the field from what I’ve seen on film.

10.What would a team get in a player like you?

A player that can lead and be vocal. Eager to learn and develop as a player.    Loyal and committed to the team and organization. A player that can handle the pressure. Coachable.

11.What are you hoping to achieve as a football player going forward?

Competing  in the CFL or NFL. Leaving a legacy for the next generation to chase after.

12.How do you handle challenges both in life and on the football field?

Handle challenges with pride. Push forward until the duties done, just like you would fight through a play till the whistle blows.
