Under the Radar Draft Pick: Kenny Yeboah, TE, NY Jets

Jets tight end Kenny Yeboah is a player to keep an eye on. He is a big time prospect who is shining in camp.

While Kenny Yeboah was not actually a draft selection in the 2021 NFL Draft, he was an UDFA signing with the NY Jets. The 6’4”, 250 lb TE out of Temple/Ole Miss has struggled in the preseason, but his Hail Mary grab at the end of the Jets’ most recent preseason game highlighted the potential of the young TE.

Yeboah spent 4 years at Temple University, catching 6 TDs in those 4 years. Yeboah transferred to Ole Miss for the shortened 2020 season, where he broke out. He matched his previous 4 year TD total, catching 27 passes for 524 yards and 6 TDs in 7 games. Yeboah finished 2nd in the SEC averaging 19.4 yards per catch. Yeboah’s highlight game of the 2020 season came against the eventual National Champion Alabama Crimson Tide. In a 63-48 shootout loss to the Crimson Tide, Yeboah hauled in 7 catches for 181 yards and 2 TDs.

Yeboah has struggled in the preseason, but has shown flashes of his monster size and playmaking abilities. Normally a solid catcher in college, Yeboah has struggled with his hands transitioning to the professional level. But you wouldn’t know that based on his Hail Mary reception vs the Eagles. With the clock ticking down and eventually showing 0:00, QB James Morgan lofted up a pass that Yeboah went up and hauled in, capping off a 100 yard, 2 TD night. It was just the ending that Yeboah needed to prove his worth for a roster spot versus Tyler Kroft, Chris Herndon, Ryan Griffin, and others.

It is still to be determined if Yeboah will make the final 53-man roster for the NY Jets as we approach the 2021 NFL season. But make no mistake- no matter Yeboah’s situation in the coming weeks (Jets roster, practice squad, or other NFL roster), Yeboah has the size, strength, and playmaking abilities to contribute to an offense at the NFL level. We can’t wait to see Kenny continue to ball out!
