South Carolina High School Football Player dies after collapsing during practice

Dutch Fork South Carolina High School Football Player collapsed and died on the field.
Dutch Fork South Carolina High School Football Player collapsed and died on the field.

This is the sixth time this year. You cannot make this up. This is becoming a huge problem in high school football.

The young man’s name was not released by the school, but according to the Dutch Fork football team’s Instagram page, the team moved practice back from the afternoon to 7 pm, due to heat.

The team usually practices at 4 pm. The Silver Foxes are a five time Class 5A Champions and have a 51 game unbeaten streak going, so competitiveness is definitely in their nature.

As I stated the district would not release the students name, but did release this statement.

“It is with heavy heart that we inform you of the death of a Dutch Fork football student who passed away Tuesday after collapsing at football practice,” Lexington-Richland 5 said in the statement. “The death of any youth in our community is a tragedy for all. At this difficult time, we turn our attention to supporting the family.

“Out of respect for the family, we will not share details or release the name of the student. Our focus is on supporting our staff and our students in the coming days.

“This is a sad day for us and our entire community is grieving this loss. Additional counselors and district support will be available to students over the next few days.”

This is the second tragic thing to happen for the school this year. Former Dutch Fork football star Gage Zirke, 20, was found shot to death in a vehicle back in July.
