1.What should we know about Dominique Shelton the person?

I am definitely a person who loves his family. From my Mom and Dad to my brother,  my Grandmother and Great Grandmother, and my Uncle. Family is everything. Definitely blessed! I am very driven and passionate in life as well as football.

2. What sets you apart from other defensive backs?

My ability to play not just cornerback, but also in the slot as a nickel back. Being versatile is a plus. My size at 5’10/ 198lbs helps me in the box. Playing in the SWAC for 2yrs initially at D1 was a very good experience. A lot of great athletes I competed against.

3. What is your favorite workout?

I was always taught since high school, bench, squat, clean, and deadlift. Those core lifts gave me a great foundation. That along with my technique and speed work has definitely helped me in college.

4. What are your favorite moments from your football life?

I was lucky to be coached by my father who played D1 and in the CFL. Playing pop warner and going undefeated, in High School winning the NCS Championship, playing in Junior College with my dad coaching, and getting a D1 scholarship. Playing in the SWAC and being one of the best cornerbacks in the conference. Now being at Northwest Missouri State one of the best teams in the country. Definitely a blessing.

5. What type of energy do you bring onto the football field?

I definitely feel when I play I am the best cornerback on the field. I want to make every play that comes to me. I let my playmaking speak for me. The energy from getting a pick or a PBU fires up the team. I definitely play with passion and a purpose.

6. If you could hang out with any football player past or present for a day who and why?

Chris Johnson he was my first favorite football player.

7. How do you prepare for games?

I have always prepared physically during the week, weight room, cardio and treatment. Since being at Northwest I had to learn to study film more, learn tendencies and be a student of the game. That’s something Coach Clayton demands from the cornerbacks and I am definitely getting better.

8. What is a moment that improved you as a football player?

For me when I got to college, I told myself I had to work harder than everyone. Having that mindset to do more away from the team on my own was key for me. It translated to me making more plays and being impactful !!

9. What are you looking forward to in your upcoming season?

This season is everything for me, I played in the SWAC and had success. I transferred to Northwest and was injured in the previous spring. I am back at 110% with expectations to be the top cornerbacks in D2 and one of the best in the country. I am blessed to be healthy and have the opportunity to play for one of the best teams in the country. Our goal is to win the national championship !!!

10. What would a team get in a player like you?

I have always been a hard worker who will compete to know the end. A team will get a leader who respects the game and will do whatever it takes to win. Also will be an example of someone who had adversity thru injury, dealt with and persevered. I am driven with a desire to never fail. Definitely blessed!!!
