2022 NFL Draft Prospect Interview: Brandon Ruffin, CB, Shepherd University

Shepherd University defensive back Brandon Ruffin recently sat down with NFL Draft Diamonds owner Damond Talbot.

What makes you a top prospect at your position in the 2022 NFL Draft?

I believe my ability to take away a team’s #1 receiver as well as my ability to create turnovers is what makes me a top prospect at my position.

At what age were you first interested in the sport of football?

When I was in the first grade I remember seeing guys like Michael Vick & being enamored by what they could do with the football in their hands.

What is one thing that NFL teams should know about you?

I’m a hard worker and film junky. Always one of the last guys to leave practice & trying to get a beat on opposing teams.

If you could donate to one cause in the world, what would it be?

I would donate to the End SARS movement or to St. Jude’s hospital.

What is the best advice you have ever received?

The best advice I’ve ever received would have to be “Control what you can control”

Who was your childhood hero?

I don’t know if I really had one. Maybe Spider-Man!

Who is the most underrated teammate in your locker room at your school?

I would say at my time at FSU our most underrated guy would’ve been my friend Teonne Porter. He is an absolute beast and he’s about to wake a lot of people up soon though.

What is your biggest pet peeve?

My biggest pet peeve would be when people make excuses for themselves or just complain a lot.

Overcoming adversity is what defines character, what was the hardest moment in your life to overcome?

I think moving from my hometown, Alexandria in tenth grade. I had to completely start over & I hated being the “new guy”

Tell me something about your school and why it is so special to you?

Shepherd University is special to me because of the culture that’s bred here. Very blue collar & hard nose. It’s about the grind & their past records & national championship appearance show how that approach has paid off.

What is your favorite snack food?

I would say my favorite snack food would be an apple or some type of fruit.

What is the funniest part of football?

Funniest part about ball has to the conversations in the locker room before and after practices/games.

If you could sell yourself in one sentence what would you say?

I can adapt to any circumstance and I will always work hard.

If you could compare your play to one player in the NFL who would it be?

I would say Darrelle Revis. He’s always been a player that I’ve looked up to. A true technician and student of the game.

If you could have dinner with three people dead or alive, who would it be and why?

Michael Jackson, Kanye & LeBron. All three of those guys are legends in their respected crafts. No matter what the antics are outside of what do they’ll always make sure that they take care of business first and foremost.
