2022 NFL Draft Prospect: Boye Mafe, EDGE, University of Minnesota

Boye Mafe Minnesota Gophers 2022 NFL Draft
Minnesota Gophers pass rusher Boye Mafe is one of the most slept on pass rusher of the 2022 NFL Draft. I am talking about him early so when he blows up you can say man he tried to tell us!

Boye Mafe is one of the top defensive ends in the 2022 NFL Draft. The 6’4 defensive end from Minnesota has been wreaking havoc on Big Ten quarterbacks for years.

Minnesota has been producing NFL players under PJ Fleck and I do not expect it to slow down. Mafe is a player that has next level written all over him. The 265 pound pass rusher is used quite a bit by the Gophers in the upright position. Mafe has a great first step and has speed to track down the opposing teams ball carrier.

In 29 games played throughout his career he has racked up 53 tackles, with 9.5 tackles for loss and 8 career sacks. IN just six games played in 2020, the Minnesota native had 4.5 sacks for a loss of 35 yards.

Another think you have to love about Mafe is he will get his hands up if he cannot immediately effect a player. He has 3 career pass deflections, as well as 2 forced fumbles. I am expecting a monster senior campaign for number 34.

NFL Draft Diamonds Scouting Notes

Boye Mafe is a smart defender who only received an honorable mention in the Big-Ten last year, which I thought was a slap in the face. I think Mafe should have easily been an All-American, but this year I am not sure the offensive lineman or the voters are going to be able to stop him. I expect a double digit tackles for loss season for the Gophers pass rusher. Do not be shocked if he ends up leading the FBS in sacks. He has a knack for getting after the quarterback and he proved that last year in a very short season. – Damond Talbot, NFL Draft Diamonds, Owner
