2021 NFL Draft Prospect Interview: Austin Faoliu, DL, University of Oregon

University of Oregon pass rusher Austin Faoliu is one of the most underrated prospects in the draft. He recently sat down with Draft Diamonds writer Justin Berendzen

1.What made you decide you wanted to be a football player?

  • Simply for the love I have for the game. I love what the game brings and being physical and violent with people.

2.What type of energy do you bring onto the football field?

  • I’m very excited just being out there with the fans in the stadium and the intensity that I bring out there. And being pumped up ready to go to war.

3.What role do you hope to have if you make it into the NFL?

  • Being able to contribute on the football field.

4.If you could hang out with any football player past or present for a day who and why? 

  • I would hang out with Aaron Donald basically because he plays the same position as me and is the most dominant defensive linemen in the league right now. And I would be very happy if this becomes true.

5.What has been your biggest challenge in life?

  • I would have to say my last 2 years of my  high school football career because my family was basically homeless and I did get offers my last 2 games but it was really hard and the adversity I had to go through. 

6.What do you think are the keys to success on the football field?

  • Would have to be having that dog mentality and giving all you got and also a blue collar mentality that you gotta show up and get what you can get out there. If you have those 2 things I think that you are successful.

7.What are your favorite moments from your football life?

  • My favorite moment I would have to say is my sophomore year against Utah and I got a strip sack and we got the ball back and I have to say that is one of the biggest moments of my career.

8.What sets you apart from other defensive linemen?

  • I think what sets me apart from other defensive linemen in the draft is being underrated I know people don’t know about me and I’m ready to put on a show for them.

9.What is your favorite workout?

  • Any upper body workout I love working on my upper body whether its curls or back.

10.What would a team get in a player like you?

  • A team would be getting a hard worker and a respectable player who has that blue collar mentality like I was talking about ready to show up everyday and expect nothing less than that.

11.What were your favorite things about playing football for Oregon?

  • My favorite thing would have to be playing with my teammates going through practice with them and then going out there on the field. Being with my teammates was one of my favorite things things playing for Oregon.

12.What is your mindset when you are on the football field?

  • My mindset is really relaxed and focused not being too high or too low and going out there and making sure I get the job done and not being too hyped.
