2021 NFL Draft Prospect Interview: Nick White, FS, Friends University

Nick White is a passionate DB out of Friends University who displayed his talent at this year’s Tropical Bowl. He recently sat down with NFL Draft Diamonds writer Jimmy Williams.

Talk about your experience as a student. What is your major/minor? Did you participate in any other activities or campus organizations other than football?
My major is in General Studies, Friends University is a Christian school so that’s one reason I chose to go there. Football was my main focus, as well as making sure my grades were good. Being at a Christian school I did attend chapels as much as I could.

What do your teammates say is your best quality?
To lead by example, my ability, and passion for the game as well. I’m not the loudest guy but my actions speak for themselves. My presence is always felt during practice and during game time.

What kind of role do you see yourself in on the team? What scheme and/or position suits your skill set?
Being a leader, I’m someone that can be depended on no matter the situation. I feel that I can be in any scheme. I’m a versatile player so whatever is asked I can do! Playing the high safety, come down in the box, or even at the corner if I’m called upon. I’m not limited when it comes to secondary play.

Who is the best player you have ever played against in college?
There is no particular player. There were many good players throughout my time at Friends U.

Which one of your teammates impresses you the most?
There are many guys who impressed me. But there is one I would say that stood out the most was Juan Salazar, he’s a guy that came ready day in and out no matter the circumstances. You could count on him to be ready! Before I came he played LB but ended up at RB and was a top rusher in the conference.

Describe a time in your life when you were able to overcome a struggle.
Literally everyday life I overcome struggles.  I’ve been through so much and each day I find a way to overcome it all by the grace of GOD. Without GOD I wouldn’t be the man I am today. I’ve been around the world playing football at different colleges and those were tough times because I didn’t play as much as I wanted. But I realized now that it was my purpose to reach out to certain people and players and give them what GOD told me to give them.

If you didn’t play football, what other sport would you play?
I would go with Baseball. I played when I was younger up until 8th grade. Me and my younger cousin Isaiah were the best players each year. We could’ve gone further but I started to focus just on football.

What is something that you are most proud of? What would you say is your biggest achievement?
I’m just proud and blessed that I’ve made it this far, many guys my age don’t continue to pursue their NFL aspirations after so long. My biggest achievement would be getting through all these years of school.

Describe one of the most memorable plays of your collegiate career.
I would have to say my junior year versus Ottawa. We were at their house in a close fought game. The front seven brought pressure and made the QB fumble. I returned it for 50+ yards to give us the Win. That was a great feeling not only for me but for the fans, coaches, and my teammates.

Do you have a favorite athlete or professional team? Is there a player that you model your game after?
My favorite team is the Atlanta Falcons, I’m a die hard fan no matter what they go through. I have to root for the home team. I don’t think I model my game after anyone. I like many players at my position. Although, I would say Earl Thomas in his prime was a player I took notes on.

Who is your favorite music artist? What gets you pumped before a game?
I don’t have a favorite artist. I like to listen to different genres of music. But before my games I listen to gospel, it gets me in the right spirit to take on all challenges that may come my way.

What is your favorite comfort food?
Hot wings, nothing can top that. Especially wings from ATL.

Do you have a favorite movie, TV show or actor?
There are many movies I like but Friday is one of the top movies I enjoy. Tv show, there are too many to name, Walking Dead is one that has been around for years that I still enjoy.

What do you do in your spare time? Do you have any hobbies? Any secret talents?
I love to cook, play family games, workout  and read the Word. All those bring me joy.

Who or what motivates you the most?
My family, but my motivation comes from within. I don’t look to anyone for it. GOD gives me all the motivation I need for myself each day. My future is what pushes me to be better each day. Knowing what’s ahead is motivating itself.
