Charles Westbrook Free Agent Interview
Charles Westbrook is a feisty running back recently sat down with NFL Draft Diamonds writer Justin Berendzen.

Hello, I am @jrberendzen on Twitter and this is one of my free agent interviews where I ask very deserving free agents questions about the players themselves and about what a team would get in these players. All of these players should get picked up by NFL, CFL, and XFL teams and get a shot at being a career football player. So I hope you all read this interview and follow his journey on Twitter @CharlesWestbro6

1.What do you think is the key to success on the football field?

From my experience preparation is the key to success on the field. It comes down to how well you prepare mentally and physically. Being the most prepared puts you in the best position to win games. Ultimately, that preparation creates confidence that then turns into execution. I had a coach that use to always say “Proper Preparation prevents piss poor performance “. And that starts with the organization as a whole top to bottom from coaches to players.

2.What is your favorite workout?

I really enjoy jumping so anything that involves plyometrics. I work out with Gridiron Elite in Chicago and I love Plyo days. Shout-out coach Jeremy. Really anything explosive.

3.If you could hang out with any football player past or present for a day who and why?

I’ve been watching the I am an athlete podcast & I think Fred Taylor would be a great guy to sit down & talk with. It wouldn’t even be football related just talk about life.  He seems like a very knowledgeable down to earth person. I really enjoy listening to him speak he drops some gems from time to time.

4.What has been your biggest challenge in life?

My biggest challenge thus far is overcoming my story. Being the best version of myself reaching my full potential on a day to day basis. Being comfortable with the lessons failure may bring and finding a positive outlook. I have a daughter so I just want to make sure I have all the necessary skills and to fill every knowledge gap to make sure she has a great life.

5.What made you decide you wanted to be a football player?

I was exposed to the game at a young age playing flag football around 5 years old and around 8 or 9 I realized how good I was at it and just went from there. I loved playing NCAA college football video game so I knew I wanted to play college football and go to the NFL.

6.What is your mindset when you are on the football field?

Man, when I’m on that field. My mind is spinning 100 miles an hour of pure bliss. It’s an amazing feeling.  I can genuinely say playing football makes me happy. When I’m out there I’m completely focused ready to execute I’m a lil arrogant sometimes I just want to make plays.

7.What is your favorite stadium that you’ve played in?

I have a 3 way tie! University of Illinois that stadium is beautiful. North Dakota State atmosphere is amazing . West Family stadium in West Liberty, WV also has a special place in my heart.

8.Rank focus, footwork and skill based on what is most important to you as a football player and explain why?

Skill, focus, footwork. You have to have skill . Skill is what gets you there. But if you wanna play you have to be focused you have to be able to execute and be a smart player. Footwork is important but not as important as skill & focus . You can have all the footwork you want but if you have no skill & lack focus it is meaningless. You’ll get likes on Instagram lol.

9.What are your favorite moments from your football life?

I have a lot. I’m lucky to have been apart of many amazing games.  But my favorite really the ones that my family were present . There’s no better feeling than playing in front of family and when you go off to college family can’t make it to your games . So it’s special when they get to see you play. My GF and My mom and couple of my best friends flew out with my dog and got to watch me play my senior year it was epic. Shout-out lil dog.

10.What would a team get in a player like you?

A team would get a player that leaves everything he has on that field day in and day out.

11.What type of energy do you bring onto the football field?

I bring a level of intensity and playfulness at the same time I really enjoy bonding with my teammates talking trash during the play just having fun.

12.What do you hope to achieve as a football player going forward?

I just want to do it for the legacy. Leave my footprint and show my kids one day this is what your dad did.
