Lions new GM Brad Holmes should be executive of the year after trading Matthew Stafford to the Rams

Brad Holmes the new Lions GM just struck gold. He landed a younger quarterback and three draft picks for a very expensive 32 year old QB.

I love football and I do not value draft picks very much if you can obtain a star player, but let me start off by saying WOW.

Tonight, the Detroit Lions traded Matthew Stafford soon to be 33-year old gunslinger who has just two years and $43 million left on his contract to the Rams, but the return is what is impressive.

The Detroit Lions are not just landing a younger Jared Goff at quarterback, they are landing 2 first round picks and a third round pick as well.

Brad Holmes should be the executive of the year after that trade. Let me explain.

Matthew Stafford has played in the Motor City for 12 years and he probably does have several years left, but is he much better than Goff? He has thrown for 45,109 yards and 282 touchdowns with 144 interceptions. The Lions made three playoff appearances with Stafford, losing in the wild-card round all three times.

Goff on the other hand has 18,171 passing yards, 107 touchdown passes, 55 interceptions and 42 regular-season wins since entering the league in 2016.

Add in the fact that the Lions are gaining 2 first round picks and a third round pick and the Lions are doing pretty good.

I am sorry, I think both teams will win, but when you look at this trade on paper, the Lions are walking away with a hell of deal.
