How to make Texans QB Deshaun Watson happy, It is not very hard!

Deshaun Watson
Deshaun Watson is one of the best young players in the NFL. He may lose a lot of teammates this year, but the team is still not far away from turning it around.

The Houston Texans hired Nick Caserio as their new GM and there are many rumors around the NFL that their star quarterback is not happy. Well, I have a very good feeling the Texans are not going to trade him even if he requests it, so with that being said, how can they fix his relationship?

I know how to make him happy, get him some help. Right now the Texans have some solid players on their own team that are free agents. I think the first move would be to lock down wide receiver Will Fuller and OLB Tyrell Adams. Both of those players deserve to be on the team, and are must keep players.

The Texans are going to have to free up some space though because as of right now there are in cap hell. They are not only in cap hell, they do not have a first round pick because they traded it away for Laremy Tunsil.

I know many people are saying that they did not want Nick Caserio but this is not the prettiest of destinations. Players like JJ Watt could be on their way out to get under the cap. According to Spotrac, the Texans are negative 17 million in cap space.

If the team cuts ties with JJ Watt this year they would actually save 17.5 million which would about put them under the cap. It sucks because he is truly one of the best defenders to ever suit up for the Texans. The Texans can probably trade him away and gain cap space and draft capital. That is going to have to happen. Another player that could be traded is Brandin Cooks. He is making 12 million and the Texans will have to get under the cap if they want to make this work.

Can they restructure the contracts of players? Yes, they can but they need to make some power moves. They are paying some of these players too much money. Guys like Randall Cobb are making 10 plus million next year. The Texans have to be smart.

Two other players who could be cut or traded are David Johnson and Duke Johnson. Both players would free up 14 additional million dollars. These moves have to happen and the Texans have to draft a rookie running back to help Watson out.

The Houston Texans only have 8 draft picks in the 2021 NFL Draft, and right now their highest draft pick is a 3rd rounder. The Texans need to be smart and utilize their cap correctly. They are going to struggle next year, but if they can get rid of the players I mentioned above they will have some cap space.

The Texans will need to get a cheaper option at WR, maybe a guy like Rashard Higgins who has been pretty reliable for the Browns this year. He is a cheaper option than Cobb and Cooks and can come in and put up some solid production.

The Texans have to draft better. Nick Caserio has not had the best drafts over his career with the Patriots, but he had always had a franchise quarterback until this year. Well he has a franchise QB in Watson. The Texans are going to have to trim the fat, and sign some good players.

I know losing players like JJ Watt, David Johnson and Brandin Cooks is going to hurt, but it will bring them draft capital and cap savings. Both of which they need right now.

If the Texans can some how land a second round pick they could be in a play for a player like Najee Harris who would help them out immensely. By adding Will Fuller with Keke Coutee and Rashard Higgins, the Texans would have a solid passing attack. If they can add a running back like Najee Harris they would have a solid run game.

They have a solid offensive line, and can add via the draft at any hole they feel. The Texans will be forced to add talent on defense via the draft, but if they can trade some players and gain more picks they will be winning.

By cutting or trading JJ Watt, Brandin Cooks, Randall Cobb, David Johnson and Duke Johnson the Texans would save 50.25 million dollars. They will only have to fill 5 players holes. They will fill one with Will Fuller re-signing and one with Rashard Higgins. They would fill one with drafting a RB like Najee Harris. They would just need to add some defensive help in the later rounds and they basically would fill the holes. Will their be a drop off? Potentially but by cutting or trading five players the Texans would be set and out of salary cap hell.

The last thing is finding someone to help right the ship. They need a young and talented head coach. Someone that can bring life back to the team. Bill O’Brien ruined things there, and with a new and inspiring head coach they can change things around!
