West Ashley Football lost a member of their football team on Thanksgiving, when LB/RB Mikell McKelvey was shot and killed.

On Thanksgiving, many families are sitting around the table giving thanks to another prosperous year, but this year was different for the McKelvey family in Charleston, South Carolina.

Around 3:50 am on Thanksgiving, Charleston police received a call about a victim with a gunshot wound at the Pamilla Parkside Apartments on Ashley River Road, in South Carolina.

The person found lying in front of a car with a gunshot wound was Mikell McKelvey, a 15 year old high school football player. Officers attempted to revive him, but he was pronounced dead at 4 a.m., according to the police report.

The video above is from the West Ashley Football Coach Donnie Kiefer who talked about the talented McKelvey. McKelvey was a standout on the junior varsity team that was called up to the High School level as a sophomore.

McKelvey played linebacker and running back. Charleston police are investigating. Authorities have not named any suspects or released any further details about the shooting.

We ask that you please keep his family, friends and teammates in your prayers during this tough situation.
