Could Trey Lance drop out of the first round with the recent emergence of BYU QB Zach Wilson?

Is Trey Lance’s stock dropping by him not playing? Could BYU QB Zach Wilson bypass the NDSU passer?

Trey Lance was considered the 2nd to 3rd best quarterback prospect in the NFL Draft before his game October 31st against Central Arkansas. Now, many draftniks are dropping Lance.

Trey Lance the North Dakota State quarterback threw his first career interception in that game, and it is very hard to evaluate a player off of one game. Lance played in just one game and then declared, so teams have only a limited amount of film.

Zach Wilson the BYU gunslinger on the other hand is having a little run right now. Wilson has a chance to bypass Lance because he is starting to have a bigger body of work.

I am not saying Lance is going to drop immensely but he could fall out of the first round. When you think about it, Trevor Lawrence is the top prospect, Justin Field, Trey Lance, and Zach Wilson are all trending upward. Do I think four quarterbacks will be taken in the first round? I don’t, but it could happen.

With the small amount of film, teams may stay away from Lance because they do not have enough to critique him on. Remember this is a franchise position. People draft a quarterback high in the NFL Draft because they envision a franchise guy. If you have question marks on a prospect that may keep you from investing such a high pick in the player.

At this point, I do not see Trey Lance losing his status as a top 15 pick, but if Zach Wilson continues to ball out he could be the Cinderella guy that jumps Lance and bumps Lance to the end of the round or even out of the round.
