There are some pretty impressive tight ends in the 2021 NFL Draft. Kyle Pitts from Florida is my top guy, Brevin Jordan from Miami is another dog, and Penn State’s Pat Freirmuth all look the part. The NFL has several big time tight ends in the NFL, but guys like George Kittle and Travis Kelce can change a game immediately.
To me one player that is not getting enough love is Hunter Long. I know he is only a junior, but this kid is playing lights out right now. Boston College needs to find a way to get him the ball more. This year the 6050 tight end from Exeter, New Hampshire has been a bright spot on the Eagles offense.
Long has 41 receptions for 478 yards and has scored three times. In the beginning of the year, Long was getting targeted more. He was hauling in 6 plus receptions the first four weeks of 2020, then all the sudden there was a drop in getting him the ball. Long had 31 receptions in his first four weeks.
BC needs to find a way to get him the ball more. Long is a big time prospect and he will fly up NFL Draft boards. He has great athletic abilities you can see it on film. He is fast, has soft hands and looks like he can jump. He has 73 career receptions for 1090 yards and 7 touchdowns. He already has more receptions in 2020 than he did in his prior two years combined.
Long should consider declaring. I think he would be a top 3 round tight end prospect at this time. He has been a stud and I think he will be drafted earlier than expected.
NFL Draft Diamonds Scouting Notes
Hunter Long is one of the most versatile prospects in the NFL draft. Yes, that is a rare statement when talking about a tight end. He can be a blocker and pass catcher. The other tight ends I listed above cannot block as well as Long. He is not a guy that is going to be ripping 70 yards runs, but he will be a guy that is constantly picking up first downs and fighting for extra tough yards. Long is no longer a sleeper, this kid is the real deal – Damond Talbot, NFL Draft Diamonds, Owner
