New York Jets need to put in a waiver claim for WR Dante Pettis

Yesterday, the San Francisco 49ers released Dante Pettis. Pettis the former Washington wide receiver that was drafted in the 2nd round by the Niners never really panned out in San Francisco.

Pettis has 38 career receptions and 576 yards and 7 total touchdowns. The Jets on the other hand have been banged up bad. In 2018, Pettis as a rookie was pretty damn impressive. He hauled in 27 receptions for 467 yards and 5 touchdowns.

Since his rookie year, Pettis has not been getting the ball. He has only started in 4 games since his rookie year. He had 11 receptions for 109 yards and 2 touchdowns last season.

This year, Pettis has not played much this year. He played 45 plays in week 1 against the Cardinals but only had one punt return. Pettis has played 66 snaps this year.

The Jets on the other hand could us Pettis big time. Joe Douglas said he has to do better to get Sam Darnold more help.

“I have to do a better job of surrounding him with better players and better weapons.“

“I feel like he has a different set of wide receivers every week,” Douglas said, via NFL Media. “I think you see the flashes of what he can be, and they’re really special. Let’s not forget that Sam’s a 23-year-old quarterback that is maybe one of the toughest quarterbacks I’ve ever been around. I’m very excited about Sam. I have no problem saying that he is our best quarterback and our quarterback for the future.”

The Jets have 5 wide receivers over 100 yards. Breshad Perriman has 118, yards, Chris Hogan has 118 yards, Jeff Smith has 141 yards, Braxton Berrios has 210 yards and Jamison Crowder has 383 yards. The Jets only have 4 touchdowns in total.

If Joe Douglas is serious in what he said he will put in a waiver claim for Dante Pettis.
