Predicting a Trade: Bengals trade WR Alex Erickson to the Patriots for a 7th round pick
The New England Patriots are banged up brutally at the wide receiver position and they love their white wide receivers. Alex Erickson is on the Bengals roster right now and he is not being used.
Alex played college football at Wisconsin and was signed by the Bengals as an undrafted free agent in 2016. Erickson has become a pretty solid player for the Bengals too. He is one of the best punt returners in the NFL. In his career, Erickson has 81 receptions for 947 yards and has over 3,643 return yards.
The former Wisconsin Badger posted a respectable PFF grade of 67.1 last year, putting him right around the middle of the pack in terms of receivers. He was a dependable option in the slot.
The Bengals have some depth at the wide receiver position. Mike Thomas has emerged as a solid player, Tee Higgins has stepped up and guys like Erickson are not getting the ball or on the field.
Through 8 games right now, Alex Erickson has 1 reception for 9 yards and 1 rush for 7 yards.
When you look at the Patriots roster, Erickson is an immediate starter and a huge upgrade. The Patriots starting wide receivers yesterday against the Bills were Isaiah Zuber, Gunner Olszewski, Jakobi Meyers and Damiere Byrd.
With Julian Edelman and N’Keal Harry both out with injuries, the Patriots need some help. This is a low risk, high reward move for the Patriots. Get a solid player who will come in and do whatever is asked, and he adds value on special teams.
