From the 504 to The Spring League; Dion Ray hopes to show off his skills

Former Nicholls State University Alumni Dion Ray is hoping to show off his skills in The Spring League. Ray will make his Spring League debut this year.

Wide Receiver Dion Ray is taking his talents to San Antonio. The former Nicholls State University alum is set to make his debut in The Spring League. Ray made explosive plays during his brief time with the Colonels. While battling the Houston Baptist University Huskies last season, Ray exploded for 145 yards on 7 receptions. His explosiveness is what is going to be noticed. He joins his Quarterback Chase Fourcade and Tight End/FB Jordan Talley as former Colonels playing in The Spring League. 

2019 Season (Senior): Played in nine games at wide receiver in his lone season with the Colonels, logging seven starts… missed time mid-season with an injury… was the team’s second-leading receiver, racking up 579 yards and one touchdown on 30 receptions… recorded three 100-yard games, highlighted by 145 yards on seven receptions in the win over HBU… had six catches for 128 yards against Abilene Christian… hauled in seven receptions for 119 yards against McNeese, including a 55-yard TD catch… had one rush on the season, scoring a 15-yard touchdown against Prairie View A&M… also had two kick returns for 45 yards against the Panthers.

AT LOUISIANA-LAFAYETTE

2018 Season (Junior): Made the switch to wide receiver… played in five games.

2017 Season (Sophomore): Made appearances in nine games … running the Wildcat formation, finished tied for third on the team in rushing touchdowns (four) and ran for 27 yards on 16 carries … scored a rushing touchdown against Southeastern La. (9/2), ULM (9/23) and at Idaho (10/7) … carried the ball a season-high five times against New Mexico State (11/8), scoring the opening touchdown on a three-yard run finishing with 16 yards on the ground, that included a season-high 14-yard run …Earned second letter.

2016 Season (Redshirt Freshman): Made a brief appearance in the Ragin’ Cajuns contest at New Mexico State (10/1) before getting significant playing time in the final five games of the season … Ran out of the Wildcat formation, gaining 119 yards on 27 carries with a pair of touchdowns … Best performance of the season came against Georgia Southern (11/10) where he rushed for 71 yards on eight carries with a touchdown … Capped an 11-play, 75-yard drive in the second quarter for the Ragin’ Cajuns with a 16-yard TD run for a 14-6 lead … Rushed four times for 11 yards against Southern Miss (12/17) in the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl, scoring on a 12-yard run to cap a two-play drive in the second quarter and tying the game at 14-all … Earned first letter.

2015 Season (Freshman): Member of the scout team where he was the Cajun Team Offensive MVP… received a redshirt.

At Helen Cox: A three-star recruit by Rivals.comScout.com and 247Sports.com … Rated as the No. 3 quarterback in the state of Louisiana, No. 27 in the South and No. 90 nationally by Scout.com … A four-time all-district selection who threw for 1,538 yards and 11 touchdowns as a junior at Helen Cox … Rushed for 654 yards and 13 scores … As a sophomore, tossed for 1,385 yards and nine scores while gaining 525 yards and five TDs on the ground.
