Draft Diamonds Free Agent Interview: Tony Andrews, Defensive Back

Tony Andrews Free Agent
Free Agent defensive back Tony Andrews recently sat down with Justin Berendzen of NFL Draft Diamonds.

Hello, I am @jrberendzen on Twitter and this is one of my free agent interviews where I ask very deserving free agents questions about the players themselves and about what a team would get in these players. All of these players should get picked up by NFL, CFL, and XFL teams and get a shot at being a career football player. So I hope you all read Tony’s interview and follow his journey on Twitter @Tony2__

1.What do you hope to achieve as a football player going forward?

I want to impact someone’s roster and prove that my talents need to be showcased in professional football.

2.What is your favorite stadium that you have played in?

Wayne State University had multiple interception games at that stadium.

3.What is your mindset when you are on the football field?

Help my team find ways to stop our opponent, and win my matchup.

4.What has been your biggest challenge in life?

My biggest challenge in life so far has been this year. 2020 was a year that I had planned out from January to December and was on the verge to complete these goals. Once the pandemic hit, everything took a whole left turn. I sat down and wrote my goals down and found a way to complete them in a different way.

5.If your life was a tv show what would you call it and why?

The Simpsons because it seems that every episode is happening or already happened.

6.What is your favorite workout?

My favorite workout is the lower body. I love to work on my explosion and balance.

7.What are your favorite moments from your football life?

My first career starts in college during my freshman year. I set the school record for interceptions in a game and went on to be a national player of the week. What made it better as it was in my hometown.

8.What made you decide you wanted to be a football player?

In 2nd grade, my friends and I played street ball and would play “sideline pop” as we called it lol. That’s what made me want to get into organized football.

9. What type of energy do you bring onto the football field?

The type of energy I bring to the field is excitement. Being blessed to play a child’s game is the best feeling. Excited to play something I love.

10.What would a team get in a player like you?

Hungry, coachable, and determined to help the team out in every aspect of the game.

11.If you could hang out with any football player past or present for a day who and why?

Ed Reed, this is my idol because I idolized my game after him. I would love to question how he prepared for every game and his focus on that opponent that week. Also would want to ask how he balanced life off the field and how to be a professional at the highest level.

12.Rank focus, footwork, and skill-based on what is most important to you as a football player and explain why?

Focus, Skill base, and Footwork. Focus is first because that’s what drives me to be the greatest player I can be. Wanting to correct the mistakes I’ve committed to not repeat them again is a great feeling. Skill base is second because this is how I see where I need to get better. Knowing the weakness and making them strengths is something that drives me. Lastly, footwork and this was tough to put last. As a corner, my feet is something that’s the first thing a receiver studies. I believe that focus and skill base transition to great feet. Preparing for opponents with good feet takes extreme focus to stop.
