What NFL scouts need to know about Houston Baptist QB Bailey Zappe

Bailey Zappe NFL Draft
What NFL scouts need to know about Bailey Zappe. I mean the kid has thrown for damn near 500 yards per game already and has one more game to prove himself.

I have tons of NFL scouts that look at my website every day, and I recently I have been talking to many of them about Victoria, Texas native Bailey Zappe.

To the average football fan, they may not know who Bailey Zappe is, or why I am even talking about him, but while you may not know him, NFL teams do.

In just three games this season, Bailey Zappe has thrown for 1,453 yards, has thrown 12 touchdowns and has improved drastically on his touchdown to interception level. He has 1 interception this year and it came last week.

The wild thing is Bailey has played three FBS opponents this year. He played North Texas week 1, and threw for 480 yards and also dropped 3 td passes.

Week 2 he came up short against Texas Tech who just almost beat Texas. Zappe went bananas against Tech though. He threw for 567 yards and scored 4 touchdowns.

This past week against Louisiana Tech, Zappe threw for another 406 yards. He added 5 more passing touchdowns and that lone interception.

So I had to find out what his coach thought of him. NFL teams can watch the film and they can see a kid dissecting a Power 5 team and watch every NFL throw, but how is he as a player?

I asked his head coach this question, because I want to know more about Bailey Zappe off the field as well.

If you were selling your quarterback to an NFL team, what you would say about your quarterback?

His coach Vic Shealy was quick to respond to my question, saying “Fiercely competitive, smart, mentally tough, efficient release with strong arm talent”.

So I had to ask some of his wide outs about him. I mean NFL players want to know about character. They want to know about the player himself right? So I asked his wide outs some questions.

Jerreth Sterns has been a beast this year. The junior wide out has 37 receptions for 361yards and has scored 4 times this year already. So I asked him a question about his signal caller and his answer was pretty impressive.

When it comes to the character of Bailey Zappe, what is one thing I would love to know about him that others may not know?

“I believe the best character trait about him that not everyone knows is that he truly cares about all his teammates off the field as much as on the field.” – Jerreth Sterns

After talking to Jerreth, I contacted his friend and teammate Ben Ratzlaff. Ben was their main target in 2019, and this year has 23 receptions for 350 yards receiving and three touchdowns. I asked what makes Bailey a great QB, and Ben pumped up his QB!

What makes Bailey Zappe a great quarterback?

“Bailey is a super smart quarterback. He does a great job of recognizing defenses and getting us into the right play calls to help us be successful. His knowledge of the game is very impressive” – Ben Ratzlaff

I had to hit up his brother Josh as well. Josh has been ballin at Houston Baptist too. Josh has 9 receptions for 307 yards and 3 touchdowns.

“His field presence and football IQ is like having a coach on the field with you. His ability to see the field and make pre snap reads Is a huge confidence builder for us. You also learn quickly to not give up on a play because he somehow seems to get out of trouble and finds a way to make something out of nothing. And He is always looking to get the ball down the field.” – Josh Sterns

You see this is what the scouts want to read! This is what makes Bailey Zappe a great quarterback. This is what makes him a fierce competitor and a great option for your team. Look out though because he has one more game. If Bailey can just eclipse 2k in four games, I would continue to pound the table for him and would even beg for at least one Heisman vote for the kid!
