Draft Diamonds Free Agent Interview: David Richardson II, Defensive Back

David Richardson
Meet Free Agent Defensive back David Richardson. The former West Florida standout sat down with NFL Draft Diamonds writer Justin Berendzen.

Hello I am @jrberendzen on Twitter and this is one of my free agent interviews where I ask very deserving free agents questions about the players themselves and about what a team would get in these players. All of these players should get picked up by NFL and CFL teams and get a shot at being a career football player. So I hope you all read this interview and follow David’s journey on Twitter @Davidrich23

1.What is your favorite workout?

My favorite workout is skill work, I love working on my craft and being fundamentally sound, I feel like my  footwork is something special to see, with it being smooth and fluid something to been perfecting since I have was 6.

2. If your life was a tv show what would you call it and why?

“Even kill” would be the name of my show, because I tend to let the high get to high and lows get to low. It would be about me trying to keep everything the same “even kill”.

3.What is your mindset when you are on the football field?

I actually have this alter ego called “Drich” Drich is a mindset or person I turn into once I strap on the helmet and similar to deion sanders alter ego “prime time” confidence level through the roof, feel like I’m the baddest man to touch a football field and that I’m in control of every outcome of every play i part of.

4.What is your favorite stadium that you have played in?

My favorite stadium I played in the Cowboys at&t stadium, I played there in high school and every since been imagining myself playing in a nfl stadium with a nfl team.

5. Rank focus, footwork and skill based on what is most important to you as a football player and explain why?

1.) Focus feel like without focus you can’t have the skills or football work. 2.) footwork, especially at defensive back, DBs already have to do exotics things with there body’s like going backwards then sticking a foot in the ground and drive or twisting there hips 2 or 3 times to see receivers something that other positions aren’t ask to do. Having great focus then great footwork will make life as DB easy and it will put you in better position to make plays. Last is skill set. Focus on the craft and footwork it will enhance your skill set as a football player.

6.If you could hang out with any football player past or present for a day who and why?

If I could hangout with any football player past or present it would be Champ Bailey or Kyle Fuller. When I first starting playing football at 6 the first position I played was cornerback. Champ Bailey was one of the cornerbacks I looked up to growing up and try to model myself after him. Kyle Fuller is another player I’ll like to hangout with. I’ll pick his brain, I love the way he plays. He plays smart and smooth, he’s a baller kinda how I would characterize my game.

7. What energy do you bring onto the football field?

The energy I bring to the field is that locked in ready to go energy, I’m not going to yell or be loud but when you look at me my whole demeanor said I’m ready to ball.

8. What made you decide you wanted to be a football player?

Football kinda chose me. I played multiple sports before I played football, I was really big on basketball but found my self enjoying my time and excelling at football. Felt like I go take till the wheels fell off and ultimately didn’t wanna make my mom to pay for college and felt like football was going to make that happen.

9.What has been your biggest challenge in life?

My biggest challenge was leaving Tulsa where I had everything to transferring to Fullerton junior college in California and being homeless for couple months, couch surfing, living in hotels. Going to 5 guys and getting full on the peanuts cause didn’t have money to buy a full meal that day. Junior college was very tough and I’m glad I made it out.

10. What would a team get in a player like you?

Player you getting is a player that loves to learn, great teammate, hard worker and very humble. On the field you getting a playmaker, a smart playmaker, thrives on the fundamentals and perfecting the craft and simply just loves the game.

11. What do you hope to achieve as a football player going forward?

Being in the NFL is something I hope to achieve moving forward, continuing to play football is something I hope to achieve moving forward cause from this point forward it isn’t promised. I don’t want to give up on it, feel like I have the skill set and mindset to continue playing football in a league and more than ready to showcase it to the world.

12.What are your favorite moments from your football life?

My favorite moments is winning the JUCO national championship in 2016. It was crazy cause we all were coming from different background experiencing the same struggles off the field but made football our sacred ground and just took it all out on the field. The moments I made with that team I’ll tell my grandchildren.
