Breaking: Ferris State DB Alex Thomas becomes the first D2 football player to opt-out of the season
Former University of Cincinnati transfer Alex Thomas had a tough decision to mull with COVID-19 happening. He had recently transferred to Ferris State and we are learning he is now going to become the first Division 2 player to opt-out of the 2020 season.
Thomas was a former three star recruit according to ESPN.com and was a star wide out/defensive back from Lauderdale Lakes, Florida. After playing in 9 games in 2015 for the Bearcats racking up 23 tackles. During his time at Cincinnati he accumulated 4 interceptions and last year he picked off 5 passes for the Bulldogs.
The 6010 defensive back compares his play to Ed Reed the former Ravens and University of Miami Standout in this recent interview.
Last year, Thomas finished the season with 28 tackles, and 5 picks in 12 games played. This will be a big loss for the Bulldogs.
Yesterday, Division 2 cancelled their fall championship, which is also a huge problem for these football players. Overall, this could get bad. For Alex, we wish him the best of luck!
