2021 NFL Draft Prospect Interview: Marvin Terry, LB, Delta State

Marvin Terry was a very disruptive LB at Delta State University that tallied 13 tackles for loss and 6 sacks in 2019. He recently sat down with Draft Diamonds writer Jimmy Williams.

Tell us about your university/college. Did you participate in any other activities or campus organizations other than football? 

Delta State is a great school if you’re looking for diversity. There’s so many different nationalities here. Delta State is a small school so I guess it just stands out more here. Overall, we have good spirit and support every event here at our school. I did participate last year, but I will most definitely this year coming up. 

What do your teammates say is your best quality?

My teammates say that my ability to lead and push other players is my best quality. 

What kind of role do you see yourself in on the team? What scheme and/or position suits your skill set? 

I am most definitely a leader on the team. I would have to say a 3-4 outside linebacker.

Who is the best player you have ever played against in college?

Justice Powers 

Which one of your teammates impresses you the most?

I would have to say Zane Samuel. Dude is a freak.

Describe a time in your life when you were able to overcome a struggle.

A struggle I had to overcome was me getting in trouble. I lost everything I went from being on top of the world and having it all  to having nothing. From then I stayed prayed up and did what every man should do when they fall and that’s get back up. Perseverance, determination, and faith was all I had. I had to earn the trust of coaches and players, and I can’t thank them enough for believing in me and letting me prove myself. 

If you didn’t play football, what other sport would you play?

I probably would have given baseball a try.

What is something that you are most proud of? What would you say is your biggest achievement?

I am most proud of the man I’ve become. It’s been a long journey for me to get where I am today. My determination and faith has taken me a long way.

Describe one of the most memorable plays of your collegiate career.

One of my most memorable would have to be when I scored a touchdown to solidify a hard fought game against West Georgia.

Do you have a favorite athlete or professional team? Is there a player that you model your game after?

My favorite athlete would have to be Khalil Mack. He is a beast. I am from Dallas so you know my squad is them BOYS!!! I try to model my game after Von Miller. He is also one of my favorite players. He’s DIFFERENT. 

Who is your favorite music artist? What gets you pumped before a game?

My favorite music artist is none other than the “GOAT” NBA Young Boy.

What is your favorite comfort food?

Vanilla Ice cream for sure.

Do you have a favorite movie or actor?

My favorite movie would be Queen and Slim. My favorite actor would be Will Smith. 

What do you do in your spare time? Do you have any hobbies? Any secret talents?

I usually play games in my spare time or get a facetime call in with my kids. I play around with music. I can lowkey rap. A secret talent I have is when I get on a basketball court and turn into Lebron out there.

Who or what motivates you the most?

I would have to say my children. I grind day in and day out to make sure that my kids have the best opportunity to be as great as they possibly could be. Also my family period. Hopefully I can change their lives if I do everything I need to do.
