2021 NFL Draft Prospect Interview: Mark Williams, CB, Eastern Illinois

Mark Williams
Mark Williams shows promise as a cover corner for Eastern Illinois. He also has good bloodlines being the son of former NFL CB Darryl Williams. He recently sat down with Draft Diamonds writer Jimmy Williams.

Tell us about your university/college. What is your major/minor? Did you participate in any other activities or campus organizations other than football?

I attend Eastern Illinois University majoring in business management. Besides football, I am also a member of The Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc.

What do your teammates say is your best quality?

My teammates would probably say my best quality is my competitiveness and drive to win. 

What kind of role do you see yourself in on the team? What scheme and/or position suits your skill set?

I see myself as one of the leaders on the team, one of the older guys that younger players look up to and look to for help whether it be playbook wise or technique wise. 

Who is the best player you have ever played against in college?

Best player I’ve played against in college would have to be my former teammate Alexander Hollins.

Which one of your teammates impresses you the most?

Dytarious Johnson is the teammate that impresses me the most because of his natural instincts for the ball and his ability to move so smoothly and quickly at his size. 

Describe a time in your life when you were able to overcome a struggle.

A time in my life when I had to overcome a struggle would be my senior year in high school. I broke my wrist right before my senior season. I was told I would need surgery and miss my senior season but I decided to play through the pain and played my whole season with a broken wrist and still had a great season which landed me multiple scholarships.

If you didn’t play football, what other sport would you play?

If I didn’t play football I would play basketball. 

What is something that you are most proud of? What would you say is your biggest achievement? 

I am most proud of my resilience. My biggest achievement would probably be being nominated for the Jerry Rice Award when I was a freshman as well as being a freshman All-American.

Describe one of the most memorable plays of your collegiate career.

Second series of the first game of my red-shirt freshman season, which was also my first collegiate start. I intercepted a pass and returned it 73 yards for a touchdown.

Do you have a favorite athlete or professional team? Is there a player that you model your game after?

My favorite athlete is Jalen Ramsey. My favorite professional team growing up has always been the New England Patriots. 

Who is your favorite music artist? What gets you pumped before a game?

My favorite music artist would have to be Kevin Gates. What gets me pumped for games would be just visualizing the game and making plays in my head while listening to  a variety of artists such as Lil Baby, Lil Boosie, Kevin Gates, and Future. 

What is your favorite comfort food?

Ramen Noodles 

Do you have a favorite movie or actor?

I don’t have a favorite movie, but my favorite actor is Denzel Washington

What do you do in your spare time? Do you have any hobbies? Any secret talents?

In my spare time I like to play Call of Duty. I don’t really have any secret talents but I used to play the piano and take piano lessons when I was younger.

Who or what motivates you the most?

My family motivates me and inspires me to keep going. I’m also motivated by trying to be the best version of myself in the classroom and on the football field.
