Tennessee State football program will already be playing from behind if the football year does in fact happen.
The Tennessee State football team has had to cancel two games already this year due to COVID-19.
The Southern Heritage Classic would have been between Jackson State and Tennessee State. The game was expected to play on September 12 in Memphis, Tennessee.
That is not the only game that Tennessee State is losing out on though.
The Detroit Football Classic Weekend has also been canceled due to COVID-19 concerns.
Tennessee State was expected to take on Southern University at Ford Field in Detroit on September 5. This would have been both team’s opening game.
As of right now, Tennessee State will only have 9 games in 2020. Their first game of the year will take place on September 19 against Clark Atlanta.
HBCU programs are already under the radar, and this will not help the players with fewer games, especially when they play in a competitive conference, the OVC.
