Dabo Swinney gets crushed for wearing a “Football Matters” T-shirt, Trevor Lawrence defends him
Clemson has been in hot water the last few days for one of their football coaches reportedly using the “N” word in the locker room and apologizing. Now, their head football coach is in hot water.
A photo of Dabo Swinney wearing a “Football Matters” t-shirt, which has since been deleted, blew up on Twitter late Saturday, and people weren’t happy.
Trevor Lawrence immediately ran to his coaches defense. Clemson star quarterback Trevor Lawrence rushed to Dabo’s aid and tweeted Sunday morning.
“Coach Swinney’s shirt, in any way, is not mocking the Black Lives Matter movement. He has been wearing the shirt for months in meetings.”
Clemson is getting crushed right now and that usually happens when you are good. Well, I will say this, it is a T-Shirt. It is actually from National Football Foundation, and they have a website called footballmatters.com
Today they released this statement:
In no way was it the intention of the National Football Foundation to imply that football is more important than a black life or any life. We fully support the peaceful protests and the mission of these protests to end racism, social injustice and social inequality. Therefore, we will change the name of the Football Matters campaign. This work is underway, and we will have a new campaign name for the 2020-21 season and beyond.
