2021 NFL Draft Prospect: Austin Watkins Jr., WR, University of Alabama-Birmingham
If you have ever been to Fort Myers, Florida you have heard the stories of Sammy Watkins. Sammy was one of the best players to ever come out of Fort Myers, Florida and this year Sammy’s little cousin Austin Watkins Jr. is looking to follow in his footsteps.
Austin is also from Fort Myers, Florida. I remember watching a game of his for North Fort Myers and the kid was a star in the making. He would end up going to Dodge City to play we he hauled in 24 receptions for 330 yards and scored 4 touchdowns.
At 6-foot-3 and 205 pounds, Watkins’ size paired with his outstanding speed creates match up problems for opposing defenses. Watkins Jr. chose UAB over Akron, Bowling Green, Marshall, Southern Miss and Youngstown State.
As a redshirt junior last season, Watkins Jr. blew up! He become the third player in UAB football history to have over 1,000 yards in a season. He finished the season with 57 receptions for 1,092 yards and six touchdowns. I am expecting a huge breakout year in 2020.
NFL Draft Diamonds Scouting Notes:
Sammy Watkins was one of the best NCAA football players to ever play the game. Last year he won a Super Bowl, and his cousin is going to be a stud at the next level. I love Austin’s frame and big play ability. Austin Watkins Jr., is a huge sleeper in the 2021 NFL Draft. Remember his name because he is going to tear up the Conference USA as a senior. He was a second team All-American last year, and this year he will be a player to watch out for. Remember his name Mr. Biletnifkoff! – Damond Talbot, Owner, NFL Draft Diamonds
