The 5-foot-11, 180-pound cornerback out of Arlington, Texas posted a SWAC best 15 pass breakups and 18 passes defended last season. The second-team All-SWAC honoree capped off an impressive year with three interceptions and 42 tackles. His three interceptions ranked first on the Golden Lions team.

Shawn Steele enters his final season with 148 tackles, five interceptions and 27 passes defended through 31 games. Steele played a major role for a defense that only allowed 15 passing touchdowns last season.

In a game against TCU last year, Steele led Arkansas Pine Bluff with 2 pass breakups and a fumble recovery. What was great about that game was Steele was able to prove to the rest of college he is able to play at the next level. Small School Scouting Notes:

Arkansas Pine Bluff defensive back Shawn Steele is a player that NFL scouts are already looking at. His playmaking ability shows up on film. He takes great angles and has a reputation for shutting down opposing wide receivers. I like this kid’s ability to tackle, he never shies away from contact. – Damond Talbot, Owner, NFL Draft Diamonds
