Matt Sylvia the play making defensive back from Salve Regina University took the time out of his schedule to sit down with Draft Diamonds.

What is the best restaurant in your hometown city?

•Tio Mateo’s best authentic Mexican food for miles 

When breaking down your film what will stick out?

•My ball skills, play recognition, and anticipation 

If you won the lotto, what is the first thing you would do with the money?

Donate to charity.

What has been your biggest failure?

• My senior of high school I was the captain of my team and we went 5-5 after going u defeated and winning a state title the season before. I take most of the blame because I always feel like I could’ve done more. 

What do your teammates say is your best quality?

• Competitiveness and dedication to film study 

Who is the hardest working teammate on your team?

• I feel like in Division III everyone is playing football for the pure love of the game, so my team is full of guys who get after it. But with that being said, one guy stands out by the name of Matt Messner works harder than anyone both athletically and academically.  

Have you ever had a nickname? What is it?

• Numbers, I had it all the way through pop-warner up to High school because my first year playing football I couldn’t remember the holes. So my coach took a piece of tape and put the name “numbers” on my helmet and it stuck for years. 

What is your degree in, if you do not make it as a football player, what is your dream job?

•I’m getting a degree in Accounting, but my dream job would be working anywhere around sports. Ideally, in a front office.

What is your coolest life moment?

• Winning a state championship in high school 

What song would you sing at Karaoke night?

• Say you Say me- Lionel Richie

Who is your favorite football team?

•New England Patriots 

If you had a warning label, what would yours say?

• Caution: Plays the ball in the air like a receiver

What is your biggest fear?

• Not being successful 

Who is the most underrated player in the NFL?

• Micah Hyde

Take us through game day, How do you prepare?

•Wake up, oatmeal and re-watch the last bits of film, shower to loosen the muscles, couple shots of pickle juice & Pedialyte, pick up my travel bag, meditate at the field, pray, make sure I open up the hips and get a good sweat in, envision what I want to happen during the game. 

Do you have any hobbies?

• Working out, video games, cooking 

If you had to compare yourself to someone in the NFL, who would that be?

• If I had to compare myself to anyone in the NFL it would be Justin Simmons because he’s a bigger safety and is balanced in his abilities in the run game as well as the passing game. He doesn’t have breakaway speed but makes up with it in his play recognition.

Who has been the biggest influence on your life and explain why?

• It would have to be both of my parents because they have worked so hard all of their life to give me the opportunities I have. 

What motivates you to work hard?

• The need to reach my full potential, because I am lucky enough to have the ability to do so.
