Matt Bushman is one of my favorite prospects in the 2021 NFL Draft. He is a pure athlete. Before he went to BYU, he was an All-State baseball player batting a .400. The kid could hit a baseball, and he had multiple big schools coming after him like Arizona, Utah, Washington and Colorado but he selected BYU for their education program.
NFL teams when looking into a player check boxes to see if they meet the standards. One of those boxes happens to be family. Bushman is married to women’s volleyball player Emily Lewis. he comes from a long line of athletes, his Mother was a volleyball player, his little brother played football at BYU, his sister player volleyball at Dixie State, his Uncles were BYU football players and he had another Uncle that played basketball at Utah. He checks that box for sure.
Bushman’s family is ATHLETIC
Then come production! He led the nation in receiving yards as a tight end in high school back at Sabino High with 1,583 yards and 26 touchdowns. He finished high school with 2,891 receiving yards to go along with 42 touchdowns. The kid produced in high school and look at what he is doing at BYU!
He was named Freshman All-American by USA Today, playing in all 13 games and starting 8 as a freshman. He led all BYU receivers with 49 receptions, 520 yards and three touchdowns. As a Sophomore, he once again led BYU in receiving. He hauled in 29 receptions for 511 yards and started 8 games.
Last season, Matt started 11 games, and once again led BYU with 688 receiving yards on 47 receptions. He was one of the best tight ends in college football and the kid can block. He is only one of three tight ends in BYU history to have three consecutive seasons with 500 plus yards receiving. Production is there, so check that box too.
Next up is size, Does he check that box? Matt Bushman is a 6050 tight end that weighs 240 pounds. He checks that box too.
I have decided to stop because I can talk about Matt Bushman for weeks. He is a great kid, no character concerns and plays the game you want a tight end to play. He is a big time play maker, and seems to always be open. I want my team to draft Matt Bushman, and you should want him on your team too.
NFL Draft Diamonds Scouting Notes:
Matt Bushman will likely be a 2nd to 3rd round pick but if a team selected him in the first I would not be mad. He has old school tight end written all over him. Bushman is an fierce in line tight end that can put a defender on his butt and make a nimble catch on the sideline. I am a huge fan of his and feel he will be a blessing for a team next year. – Damond Talbot, NFL Draft Diamonds Owner
