2021 NFL Draft Prospect: Khyiris Tonga, DT, Brigham Young University

Khyiris Tonga BYU
BYU’s Khyiris Tonga is a player NFL scouts better play close attention too because he is a dog for the Cougars.

Khyiris Tonga the massive defensive tackle from from Brigham Young University (BYU), has caught my attention. Tonga is a massive man that stands at 6’4 and weighs 321 pounds. He is a former rugby player that has some pretty impressive athletic abilities.

Tonga was not fired up to wear a BYU uniform at first. He grew up a Utah fan, and was given a scholarship from them at the age of 15. Utah’s defensive coordinator at the time was Kalani Sitake, who was hoping to land the massive man on the Utes, but that would never turn out being a reality.

Tonga is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and when on a mission trip in Kansas, he heard that Sitake was taking over the reins at BYU. That was all he needed to hear. Tonga has been dominating at BYU since.

I cannot believe how talented and athletic this giant is. Many do not know this but Tonga is a beast on the basketball court. He ran track, and had a great career in rugby. This kid is one of the best prospects in the 2021 NFL Draft, because he is such a nimble big guy.

The massive defensive tackle recorded 45 tackles last year to including 1 sack and 4 tackles for loss, bringing his career totals to 94 total tackles, 5 sacks and 12.5 tackles for loss.

Overall, I think Tonga has the ability to a be a top 100 NFL Draft pick with a huge season at BYU. There is something about a mammoth of a man with athleticism. You do not find those qualities very often.

NFL Draft Diamonds Scouting Notes:

When I watch film of Khyiris Tonga I am impressed. He has power, speed, great footwork and a burst that is out of this world for a man his size. You can tell Tonga played other sports growing up because of his athleticism. He reminds me a lot of Rodney Gunter the former Delaware State defensive tackle. Both are big guys but have a rare athleticism. Tonga is special, keep an eye on him. – Damond Talbot, Owner, NFL Draft Diamonds
