2021 NFL Draft Prospect: Corey Sutton, WR, Appalachian State University

Corey Sutton App State
App State wide receiver Corey Sutton is hoping to follow in the shoes of his father who was signed by the Chicago Bears. If Sutton is healthy I expect a monstrous senior campaign.

Corey Sutton tore his ACL at the end of the season last year, but he is ready for a bounce back. The injury happened in the second quarter of the Texas State game after a catch across the middle. He will get to return this year and I expect him to shine. Let’s see if Corey can be the second Sutton to make it to the NFL. His father was signed by the Chicago Bears as a safety.

Corey out of Mallard High School would commit to Kansas State after being a top 40 prospect out of the state of North Carolina. Corey helped Mallard Creek win 14 games winning the Class 4AA State Championship Game.

Sutton’s time in Kansas State was short lived. He caught four passes for 54 yards in 11 games as a true freshman. He would end up transfer to App State after the season. Because of the transfer rules he had to sit out of the 2017 season.

The last two years Sutton has been an animal fort he Mountaineers. He is heading into his senior year tied for fifth place in App State history with 17 career touchdown receptions.

In his first two seasons for the Mountaineers, he hauled in 85 receptions for 1,374 yards in two seasons.

Sutton has been named Second-Team All-Sun Belt two years in a row as a Redshirt Sophomore and Redshirt Junior. I expect Sutton to rebound in 2020.

NFL Draft Diamonds Scouting Notes:

NFL teams love long football players with speed. Corey Sutton is that player. He stands at 6030 and weighs 200 pounds. He looks like a 4.5 guy on film but makes contested catches. He has sound route running ability and can take a hit. Sutton reminds me of Geronimo Allison of the Green Bay Packers, both have similar body frames and can make a contested reception. This year if Sutton can rebound from his injury he could break the App State record for touchdown receptions. – Damond Talbot, Owner, NFL Draft Diamonds
