Slot cornerbacks aka Nickel backs are not appreciated the way they should be. They finally began getting paid better after Nickell Robey-Coleman landed a solid contract from the Rams. Now, having a slot cornerback is key, because they can handle a speedy wide receiver coming across the middle. Well, UCF Knights may have the best nickel cornerback in the entire 2021 NFL Draft in Aaron Robinson.

Aaron Robinson is a Deerfield Beach native in Florida and left high school to join Alabama in 2016. As a true freshman he played in 13 games and recorded five total tackles. He was a four star recruit and was a top 300 prospect in the country when leaving high school. After one year with Alabama, Robinson decided to come home.

Robinson transferred to UCF and worked with the scout team for one season before getting some playing time with the Knights as a Sophomore. He battled injuries most of the year but racked up 9 tackles on the year.

Last season though, Robinson had a great year starting 10 games as their nickel cornerback. He finished the year with 54 total tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, three interceptions and 10 pass break ups. UCF loved him in the Nickel position but I think this year he will get to play outside and go man to man with the opposing teams best wide receivers. He is a feisty cornerback with size and speed. He stands over six foot and could easily be an outside cornerback for a team. If he does this, his stock will improve big time.

NFL Draft Diamonds Scouting Notes:

Nickelbacks are not given as much love as they deserve. Last year the slot corner Aaron Robinson was able to show he is capable of shutting down opposing teams wide receivers and this year the Knights are likely going to call on the former Alabama transfer to shut down the opponents number 1. I think Robinson’s stock is going to surge this year, because of his speed and length. Bigger cornerbacks are in right now, and Robinson’s versatility to play inside and outside is going to make a team fall in love. – Damond Talbot, NFL Draft Diamonds, Owner
