2021 NFL Draft Prospect Interview: Winston Eubanks, WR, Shippensburg

See Winston Eubanks is a big time playmaker in the 2021 NFL Draft. The Shippensburg wide out is hoping for a huge senior season.

Tell us about your university/college. What was your major/minor? How is campus life?

Shippensburg University is a small town school that produces tons of honest & quality people. For the most part everyone knows each other and the faculty/staff are extremely supportive in all of our endeavors. My major is Exercise Science with a minor in Business Management. I am very involved in campus life considering I am the President of the Iota Sigma chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. My fraternity brothers and I organize and execute events on campus that the student body loves and supports. Since I’m a senior, I’m not on campus as much as I used to be but the campus life can be lively especially when it’s warm out.

What do your teammates say is your best quality?

My teammates would say my best quality is my ability to bond and connect with people of all different backgrounds. I was born and raised in the inner city of Philadelphia where the majority of people there are African American. However, for my high school career, I went to a prestigious Catholic institution that was predominantly Caucasian. From these experiences I’ve been able to meet, connect, and build life-long relationships with people who come from vastly different backgrounds than myself. With this quality, I’ve learned how to become acquainted with anyone, regardless of race, status, age, or background.

I see myself as a senior leader on this team. There are guys on my team that look up to me, so I can’t afford to slack off in any way. I always have to keep pushing, motivating, and believing in myself, so when the time comes for me to graduate, I will have left Shippensburg a better place than when I came.

Any sort of spread offense that places me in the slot or out wide best suits my skill set. I was an accomplished sprinter in high school so I know how to burst and really create separation with my speed.

Who is the best player you have ever played against in college?

Craig Reynolds

Which one of your teammates impresses you the most?

Charles Headen & Joshua Gontarek both impress me a ton. Charles has fought through some injuries in his athletic career and has never given up. He’s managed to rehab every single time and come back even better than he was before. His persistence is truly one to admire. Josh has been through adversity like none other. Football was taken away from him during his early years in college yet he never gave up on his dream and fought his way back onto a roster. Where most people would call it quits, Josh stood tall and weathered the storm. Now it’s paying off for the both of them.

On March 15th, 2020, my older brother was shot and killed. This happened as soon as the country began to go on quarantine. It was tough to stay focused on my training, along with my heavy online coursework. After weeks of mourning with my saddened family members, it caused me to no longer make excuses. I’ve turned this situation into motivation and I’m going to put the biggest smile on my family’s face this time next year.

If you didn’t play football, what other sport would you play?

In high school I played rugby, basketball, football, and ran track. If I didn’t choose football, I’d play basketball. Starting out, I was never the most talented kid in any of these sports. Through hard work, and consistent effort, I drastically improved my skills in football and increased my speed in track. I always wondered if I’d be any good if I put that same effort on the basketball court.

In the Spring of 2018 I became a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. It is one of the oldest, coldest, & most prestigious Greek lettered fraternity that was established for men of color in the year 1906. Being in the same fraternity as notable members such as Martin Luther King Jr, Thurgood Marshall, Stuart Scott, & Fritz Pollard makes me extremely proud. This is definitely one of my biggest achievements.

Describe one of the most memorable plays of your collegiate career.

In 2017 late in the season we were driving down the field against Kutztown, it was the 4th quarter and we were up by one touchdown. All week we had practiced a play where I would motion from out wide, bluff a block on the DB and run an out route for a score. I knew we might call this play in the red zone, so as we ran the ball down the field I was being violent on the perimeter and got into the corner’s head. I was being extremely aggressive even though the play was on the complete opposite side of the field. As we approached the red zone the DB was very angry and couldn’t wait to knock me over. The play we practiced all week was called. I came in motion, went up to the DB like I was gonna block him, and he lunged at me. I dodged it, and cut to the endzone to catch the touchdown. We won the game. It was their homecoming.

Do you have a favorite athlete or professional team? Is there a player that you model your game after?

My favorite athlete is LeBron James because of his impact not only on the court, but off the court as well. His willingness to be a leader and make a difference in his community is amazing. The fact he built a school that sends kids to college for free makes him my all-time favorite. There’s not a specific player I model my game after, but I do try to be more like Odell Beckham Jr. He plays the game with swag and confidence. He’s just out there having fun, and I think that makes him a great receiver.

Who is your favorite music artist? What gets you pumped before a game?

Lil Uzi Vert, but Meek Mill gets me motivated before a game, he’s from the same place I’m from, so it’s a little extra motivation for me.

What is your favorite comfort food?

Chick-Fil-A waffle fries. Normally I try to stay away from fried foods but sometimes it just calls to my spirit. Can’t ignore it. (Maybe throw a strawberry milkshake in there too)

Do you have a favorite movie or actor?

I have two favorite movies, the first one is Inception and the second one is Prince of Egypt. I love Inception because each time I watch the movie I notice something new. Leonardo DiCaprio does a great job in his role and the entire movie really makes you think. I love Prince of Egypt because the Book of Exodus is my favorite passage in the Bible and I believe this movie was the best rendition of it.

What do you do in your spare time? Do you have any hobbies?

Sometimes I watch tv or play video games. I’m actually very boring. I really just workout, eat, and sleep. I need to get a life smh.

Who or what motivates you the most?

My family is my biggest motivator. I want to make my parents proud and I push myself everyday so I can set the example for my younger siblings and cousins who look up to me.
