2021 NFL Draft Prospect Interview: Logan Swanson, DL, Augustana University

Augustana pass rusher Logan Swanson recently sat down with Jimmy Williams.

Tell us about your university/college. What was your major/minor? How is campus life?

I attend Augustana University in Sioux Falls, SD. It is a small private college with less than 4,000 students. It is a great college that I love. My major is Math/Physics and Secondary Education. Campus life is good with a lot of opportunities and groups to be a part of. I am in the theatre and DND club at Augie.

What do your teammates say is your best quality?

I am very good at talking to people. I have been told I am good at speeches and connecting with people in an effective way on and off the field.

What kind of role do you see yourself in on the team? What scheme and/or position suits your skill set?

I am a “lead by example” leader. I lead when there needs to be a big play made. We are a 4 Dline and 3 linebacker defense. I play primarily 3 tech but I sometimes play nose and end. I am best at 1 on 1 situations and dominating my opponent.

Who is the best player you have ever played against in college?

Jake Lacina, the starting center at Augustana for the last 4 years. He recently won the Rimington Award for best Offensive Center and signed as a free agent with the Minnesota Vikings.

Which one of your teammates impresses you the most?

I think the middle linebacker on our team,TJ Ligget, impresses me the most because he is one of the smartest students I’ve ever met. You can tell by the way he learns and studies football as well. He also likes proving people wrong, and he is capable of doing whatever is asked of him. I respect that.

Describe a time in your life when you were able to overcome a struggle.

I had a partial tear in my MCL 2 seasons ago during fall camp and got back into the season after 1 game of being unable to play and recovered in only 2 weeks. It was a struggle because I had to devote a lot of time to rehab and training to still be helpful to my team and not lose any football skills in those 2 weeks of recovery.

If you didn’t play football, what other sport would you play?

I won state wrestling in MN my Senior year of High school so I would have tried to wrestle in college.

What is something that you are most proud of? What would you say is your biggest achievement?

I am a business owner for an entertainment DJ company and I am proud of being a successful business owner as a college student. Biggest achievement would be winning State wrestling in triple overtime!

Describe one of the most memorable plays of your collegiate career.

During a night game versus our rival school, the University of Sioux Falls, I made a strip-sack within the 10-yard line (1 of 2 sacks that game), and we ended up scoring the next play! The response to that play from my teammates and the fans was amazing.

Do you have a favorite athlete or professional team? Is there a player that you model your game after?

My favorite team is the Denver Broncos. I model my game after Von Miller and his hand fighting skills.

Who is your favorite music artist? What gets you pumped before a game?

Favorite music artist is Juice WRLD. “Godzilla” with Eminem and Juice WRLD is great or NLE Choppa “Hit the Scene” and getting hyped with the boys before a game.

What is your favorite comfort food?

My comfort food is 100% Ice cream from Stensland Family Farms here in Sioux falls..

Do you have a favorite movie or actor?

My favorite movie is Deadpool and Deadpool 2.

What do you do in your spare time? Do you have any hobbies?

I am a DJ and love performing or making music. I like playing video games and board/card games with my friends.

Who or what motivates you the most?

I am motivated the most by deciding that if I am going to do something, I am going to give it my all. And I feel as though when I love something that I give my all and then even more. I love football and I love the process and improving my skills. I also love to learn. A person who has always motivated me has been my mom. Growing up, it was just her and I. She has always been supportive of any activity I do, and she has given me everything I needed in life to have a successful future. She also taught me to do things the right way which includes my work ethic on the field.
