Former Wisconsin WR Kraig Appleton is facing a first degree murder charge

A former Wisconsin Badgers wide receiver is facing a first degree murder charge in the shooting death of a 41-year-old woman.

CBS station KMOV4 in St. Louis originally reported Kraig Appleton was being charged with first-degree murder. Police in East St. Louis allege Appleton shot Kelli Farrell in the stomach on Monday, April 20. Appleton is being held at the St. Clair County Jail on a $1 million bond.

Appleton, 29, was a 6030, 200 pound wide receiver from East Saint Louis, and was rated as a four star recruit.

Remember back in 2011, Appleton was hospitalized after being shot several times in East St. Louis.

Appleton signed to Wisconsin over Illinois and played as a true freshman hauling in three passes for 26 yards before getting kicked off the team.
