Shaq will pay for Louisville recruit Dexter Rentz’s funeral
Dexter Rentz was a kid I met at the park a few months ago to give a bible, and now he is dead because of a careless act.
The 18 year old Rentz was hoping to play at Louisville next season but had those dreams cut short because of a drive by shooting that left four victims shot and Rentz dying.
NBA Hall of Famer Shaquille O’Neal lives in Windemere, Florida and is willing to help the family after hearing about the shooting. In speaking with Rentz’s parents, Shaq informed them that he would be paying for all of the funeral expenses. Including, he told ESPN.com, a horse & carriage and custom-made casket.
“He was on his way, he really was,” the former NBA star told the website. “I don’t know what it feels like to lose a son, but I know what it feels like to lose someone.
“This one hurts my heart. It really does. I wish things like this would never go on. It’s just so sad, and I want to be able to help his family. I wanted to take care of it.”
